I'll be stuck in central Dublin on Saturday and see that Break for the Border is the official "Red Experience" pub. Has anyone been there for a match and experienced the Experience?
How was it for you?

For the over the hill and the past-it, nothing is impossible.
As an aside, doheny and nesbitts or searsons on baggot street are good rugby pubs too. Searsons used to be the MRSC pub before the switch - better bar for rugby supporters.
Yup, decent enough. Fairly big area closed off for the big screen. The lads that set it up are a bit of craic and always have a first try competition and about a hundred flags decorating the place. Best place for an auld Munster fest, although any time i've been there we lost!!! Get in early to get a decent seat.
the big screen is grand and at least there is a bunch. however te draw is fixednor it must be because i keep gettin bloody ROG in te first try scored competition: Searsons used to be great. doh nesbitt is small.
...and Mr. Crow comes on for Mr. Magpie.
Searsons is awkward to get to. At least with BFTB it's just one bus/luas/train etc. And you are right in city centre of you fancy heading off elsewhere after match.
Kermit & I called into BFTB last Sat. at 2pm.
Nobody was there. No flags. No decoration. Nowt. Niente.
Staff weren't aware the MRSC were even holding an event. All in a poor show. Is BFTB gone/going bust?
p.s. Searsons is maybe a 15 minute walk away. No big deal.
Wow John, you expected the Dublin Branch, people who set up BFTB with the flags etc in their own free time, often missing matches in Thomond, Musgrave Park while having paid for it through their season ticket or missing the opportunity to go to the Aviva, people who do fantastic work posting newspaper stories etc on their FB page, create an atmosphere in BFTB which I've never seen happen in the "official" Supporters Club bar, you expected them to be in place over 4hrs before kick off????
It is great to see how appreciative you are of their great effort.
And fair deuce to you if you can walk the 2km in 15mins. You're a mighty fast walker.
Afternoon All,
Heard about this thread about an hour ago and it took me a while to get registered etc (not easy with an iPhone and all thumbs).
As chairman of the Dublin Branch of the Munster Supporters club I can confirm that there will be a number of us again in Break for the Border tomorrow morning and it will be set up and decked out in Red once again as per normal. The 2 euro game will also be on the go.
There are some comments raised in the thread which I would like to comment on.
1. Break for the Border as our location.
We were originally based in Searsons on Baggot street. Unfortunately this fell on difficult times and had to close. Interestingly, while based there, the only criticism was that for some people it is not the easiest place to get to as it involved a number of changes on public transport.
Following the closure of Searsons we moved to The Stout Bar in Rathmines. Also now closed and again 2/3 buses for people.
We have been in Break for the Border for the last two years and tyey have. Even very good to us. There aren't many pubs in Dublin that will allow you deck the place out in Munster colours and also show Munster on the main screen regardless of what else is on. (admittedly if the FA Cup went to injury time last year we might have had difficulties :-) ).
As a poster pointed out, Break for the Border is central for all modes of transport (Bus, Luas and Dart).
2. Last Saturday.
The place wasn't decked out in Red at 2.00 last Saturday - correct and it won't be decked out tomorrow 4.5 hours before kick off either. However, it will be an hour to an hour and a half beforehand. At 2.00 last week 4 of us were making our way to Ballsbridge to distribute flags on behalf of MRSC.
As always, anybody looking forward to hopefully watching a Munster win and enjoying a few pints with like minded supporters is more than welcome to join us for the match and the following games also.
Now you know I am going to take issue with you..
The "Official" Supporters club bar - is a venue where people come to the game - get into the bar early- have a pint - go out and watch the game and then come back and discuss the game afterwards.(it's a different type of venue. You know full well it is not a city centre venue such as BFTB. Dolans etc- which is where the type of atmosphere for games at Musgrave Park and away games is built.
Now reply to JCC as you will. Do not through a kick - intentional or not- at those who actually worked their asses off for years to get agreement from Munster Rugby to get that bar in Thomond Park.
Will second Sinnot's. Porterhouse at the bottom of grafton street is also good.
my view on BFTB is that there are too many tv's and not enough seats - if you can't get a seat you are always standing in someone's way. Not comfortable for watching a game. Also surprised with the crowd brought in that there are no proper pint deals.
I didn't see any effort which is why I posted here. It was both surprising and a bit dissapointing tbh.
Walking wise it's actually 1.7km, which I can walk comfortably in c.15 mins.
p.s. It's "dues". Deuce is a 2 in cards.
"It is understood he received offers from other clubs to continue playing for another year or two but preferred to finish his career with Munster."

I went with my son to BFTB for the game after reading K1ngdom's post, although as the boy wanted to eat and read (?) we sat at the bar and watched from one of the many screens behind the counter there and not with the forty or so Munster fans in red giving it welly in the back. All in all there was a great atmosphere considering it was only 1.30 and, had I not been on the road to Mayo straight after, I would have like to have stayed for what looked like a long afternoon of HEC OTT DTs.
Absolutely recommend it and I'll make it my matchday spot next time I'm stuck in Dublin on game day.
Highly recommended. Burger was top notch too.
Thanks to those who made the effort.
For the over the hill and the past-it, nothing is impossible.
Yes, I do. On a normal match day, no, but when the very team we support is playing in the same town, against their biggest rivals, then you betcha. We were there 4 hours before kick off, had a look around and walked straight out again as there wasn't a soul in it. We then walked down to D&Ns and had a pint there, there were quite a few Munster fans there. We then went to Searson's for the NZ/RSA match and it was wedged. By your logic, the "official" meeting place still wouldn't have had a flag up at that stage.
Kermit, maybe you should move to Dublin and get involved so, there are only so many people willing to give their time up to do these things, especially good fans who also want to attend the matches and have to do things on match days in Dublin, like giving out flags!
Seriously unappreciative of the effort people go to here

Maybe I will. Though they're hardly a one man band, and they are quite capable of asking people for help.
Give the dubs a break. Its their scene the rest of us only pass through.
