The TJ seemed absolutely sure that it was an intentional and malicious act.
Long time out for Varls I'd say
Still no announcement of a disciplinary hearing being scheduled .. based on the red card hearing from the first weekend of the Rabo there should have been a hearing announced by now. Last time the hearing was for a friday match announced on a tuesday & took place on a thursday. so it should have been announced by earlier today.

the TJ was in my opinion the only person that wasnt sure of what was going on all evening.
i thought he was very doubtfull in what he had to say when he was speaking to the ref whom ( i thought) put words in his mouth also.
See post #284 here.
Could be a spell alright, which leaves us a little thin at hooker. Sherry can't play every minute of every match. Would they bring up some of the Academy lads for the Rabo stuff maybe? We did send two hookers to the Junior World Championships after all who were pretty nifty against the Baby Boks. Or even Sean henry?

Just watched it again:
TJ: "... 16 red got up off the floor, and then erm, backlashed with a foot to the face of the Osprey's player"
Ref: "So, 16 red has backlashed..?"
TJ: "With his foot."
Ref: "Did he look where is was going?"
TJ: "It was deliberate."
Ref: "It was deliberate? And you're certain about that?"
TJ: "I am certain"
Ref: "16 red. And your sanction for that would be..?"
TJ: "Red"

Hearing tomorrow in Edinburgh.
On gwlad a number of posters say that they saw it as well

If found guilty, then he deserves a couple of months out of the game.

I have seen both Henry and Casey in 'A' games last season and wasn't particularly impressed by either. Both are pretty skinny for guys in their mid 20s. Haven't seen if they've bulked up during the summer.
Personally, I'd love to see either Scannell or Rael getting fast-tracked.
Think we've established on Gwlad (ignoring the usual suspects) that there's no publicly available footage of it.
If he goes down (and I suspect he will), I'd reckon you're looking at 6 weeks (I initially thought 8). Entry level for stamping/trampling is 2 weeks, midrange 5+; kicking is 4 weeks entry, 8 weeks + midrange.

Have to admit, its very un-Varley like!

Could be worth reading to get an insight into the minds of the Gods that'll be passing judgement on Vars

Thanks for that one, DJ. Interesting on costs.

Someone tell Vars to have a shave though before he goes before themselves!

You mean like Sexton got?
Actually I agree, any kick to face or head area, IF deliberate, should be a long ban. LI prop only got two weeks for kicking Wally in head, Sexton got the famous two weeks for kicking Mafi - both sentences were ridiculously short but might be considered as precedent setting, depending on the similarity of circumstances. Funny how no camera got it though

I think/hope the Rabo suspensions will be fairer across the board now that the panel is more independent. When Sexton got cited, it would have been an IRFU disciplinary panel, and they were hardly going to dish out a massive sentence. Sexton shouldn't have played for the rest of that season.
I recall the WRU doing the same when Rhys Thomas (the former Dragons/Llanelli prop) handed out a proper beating to (I think) a Leinster player a couple of season ago. The WRU found that his actions didn't warrant a red card and didn't hand out a suspension. Conveniently, this was within weeks of the November internationals.
Actually the only serious sentence I can recall coming out of a Magners citing was when Mafi fondled Gordon Darcy's jaw with his forearm in the Aviva and received a 7 week ban. As Mafi wasn't needed by Deccie, the IRFU weren't too shy about handing out a fair enough suspension.
From this season, the panels are supposed to be independent, hence Varley is off to Scotland. If it was a deliberate kick to the face, then he deserves a good few weeks to cool down. Its hard to know what will happen seeing as it doesn't seem to be captured on video.
Shane Williams probably got a good view though.
If there is no Video of the incident, would Munster use the same defense as Leinster used in getting David Holwells red card rescinded?

Hells bleeding bells!!!
TBH kicking somebody in the face is so crazy - if you're seen you're off - I'd be surprised it was a deliberate kick. More likely to be a somewhat reckless shaking the foot loose. It's a standard trick anyway to grab a players foot when you're on the ground as there's a good chance he will kick back and get himself into into trouble. The 2nd part of the trick is to fling your head back hands to your face as if it's been hit with a scourge.
If there's no footage he can claim he was shaking his foot loose sur.
well looka
