    Single forward stud

Have people seen the arguement to reintroduce the single forward stud on the toe of a rugby boot? It was in the paper before the weekend but for the life of me I can't remember which one.

Question for those in know about the nuances of forward-play - will this significantly help with the scrum? Or will it just lead to further stamping injuries?

Adidas out to make money any way they can. Theirs is the only single stud boot officially approved. The IT article says it all really - Adidas and the IRB don't want to comment officially because if someone gets injured/raked by a single stud and sues, any previous comments will be dragged up.

Dangerous move - the Adidas Cap boots were banned for a reason!

    From the IRB web-site:

    RISK ASSESSMENT

Three main injury mechanisms are prevalent during play:

    (a) Glancing
    (b) Raking
    (c) Stamping

In each case one or more studs/cleats on the boot sole may contact the
    other player depending on circumstances.

The worst-case scenario in any event will be when a single stud/cleat,
normally one toward the edge of the sole, makes contact alone.
