So Ireland have searched the world for an irish qualified prop and you think its a great thing he can only scrummage.
I hope you are wrong about his tackling Ross has set the high standard of 2 per game.

Probably not right place to post but does the fact Bent is put straight in to Irish squad mean that Hagan is written off at Leinster And Ireland? Had potential but like Fionn Carr left Connacht thinking they were going somewhere and both seem to have gone in reverse

Court can tackle/carry etc but I wouldn't want him within an asses roar of the tighthead position......If Bent can scrummage well enough that we get a strong platform and don't crumple like we did when Ross got injured at Twickenham it will be far better than having a ball carrying, top tackling prop who can't scrummage.

  5. #424
His , hagan , career would be going nowhere with Connacht either...deccie doesn't travel west to look at players.
what age is hagan 25? Similar to archer...

Problem is we only have 4 teams and 2 of those have foreign tightheads starting..... we have backlog of tighheads around the country hagan archer Ryan Moore fitzpatrick furlong ..some getting more exposure than others...some getting very little.

We have to utilise Connacht more and loan stints in England like Ryan.

As for Carr he has had amble opportunity.

    ? what does this mean?

I am hopeful we won't see any of Dent, but rather Dec Fitz/Ross, et c'est tout.
happy to see the back of court in any shape or form, useless gowl

23 man panels in the AIs so Court only has to cover LHP, which he does very well to be fair. I have a feeling 23 man panels will become the norm thereafter and a LHP will no more be allowed to play on the tight head than a winger would, thank F8ck!!!!!!!!!!!

will we ever see props that can do both again? gethin can do that, can he?
or can anyone anymore? court clearly cannot. How would ross do on the
    LHP side? Pardon my ignorance.

Have to say, this whole dent business has had a pretty astounding
turnaround time.. wtf? Smacks of swanning and waltzing in, like.
The article is kinda; oh ya... he's playing ever week for taranaki,
and um, he just got off the plane, and well that's it really.

is not a bit f********g odd?

Bent has been playing regularly with Taranki in the provincial championship in New Zealand and arrived in Ireland earlier today. (and could wind up starting v SA in 12 days)..

I remember mullins/mostyn/maggs came in late 90s when we
were struggling with pro rugby , and there was a feeling that
they were welcome when mullins met his cousins in
ballinacurra or some place, and there was photos in the papers..

But we were at rock bottom back then, and I think it was merited..
I don't think we are now in the same dire straits we were in back
then, yet all these guys are 'appearing'.. Is it not a bit of a
    culture shift going on?

Hagan was getting a lot of recognition when he was with Connacht and he was well on his way to Irish caps until he went back to Leinster. Deccie looked west long enough to take Ronan Loughney to NZ and guys like McCarthy and O'Halloran are getting recognition too. If Hagan had stayed there and was starting regularly, I reckon he'd be ahead of Bent.

The Hagan move to Leinster and the subsequent White move to Connacht have been bad for almost everybody. Leinster didn't really benefit, Hagan certainly didn't and now even Loughney, who was progressing well, finds himself back on the bench. Connacht have done ok out of it but I don't think they're much better off than before. A bloody shambles really.

The reason they keep mentioning it is that none of the other options have been starting regularly and that's the problem.

    Fitzpatrick: injured (and still selected)
    Loughney: benched
    Hagan: MIA in D4
    Archer: God help us

Its a 50/50 call. Clint Newland had a shed load of appearances for the Hurricanes and he was crap. Maybe Bent will be the opposite(hopefully) .Most of his appearances were at loose head in S15 Rugby.

Oh I'm not saying it's right. I have no idea if he'll be good enough. I'm just saying why I think they went with him.

That said, having just read the interview with Andress on another thread, I'm disappointed not to see him getting a shot. Starting every week in the Premiership is generally a sign you can hack it.

And Mushy is holding his own. Especially now he has followed my advice and shaved his hair off!?! Whether he has got any tattos I don't know.

So that's 38 players now and still not a single specialist FB...
Good things happen to those who wait, though mostly much too late.

I don't think its as clearcut as saying aviva is better...when Ross came to Ireland he a couple of stone too heavy even though he was fine in England....i do admit in England scrummaging is king but there's other facets required in pro12.

When you consider what day-to-day scrum coaching Mushy was getting here at a crucial point in his development - i.e., none - you do have to wonder what might have been.

Scrummaging aside, Mushy, in my view was prone to one lapse of concentration (at least) a game. Had a tendency to switch off every now and then.
