Dave "Killer" Kilcoyne
Young Kilcoyne I thought was very impressive up in Raven Hill the other night. Technically, our scrum was in trouble but I suspect BJ has to shift some of that blame aswell. However, nobody...particualry John Afoa himself...is going to forget the sight of the ex All Black on the charge and running into the wall that is Dave Kilcoyne. 15 minutes later, Afoa was still feeling the effects of it.
Wian du Preez would want to watch his back here as we have a future Irish international here...

Yep, completely agree, I was delighted with his performance. Afoa definitely had him under pressure in the scrum but he was never completely blown off the ball, or anything like it, even when Dougall was in the bin. You could see he was making a big effort to get as low as he could, and if anything I think he got closer to parity to Afoa as the match went on.
I first saw him play in the B&I final in the RDS last year and he was head and shoulders above everyone that day, unbelievable performance. He hasn't got many opportunities to carry yet at senior level but if his performance that day is anything to go by then he'll be a very handy man to have carrying, especially around the fringes.
In fairness to Marcus he did very well in the scrums when he came on, but hopefully Killer will keep getting game time and I'd like to see him start again this weekend.

I didn't think that BJ looked fully fit and up to speed yet. It will come as he plays more games, I've no doubt about that, but it makes Kilcoyne's effort in the scrum look even more impressive

Just watched the game back again. The only time Killer got done was when Court, who had a very, very good game really got the shift on BJB and I wonder whether Killer didn't goes backwards in a deliberate defensive wheel. Apart from that, he handled Afoa well. Personally I would like to see him starting on saturday with Archer at THP and hopefully Sherry hooker although Varley had an outstanding game against Ulster.

Ulster front row won the first proper scrum some words must have been said afterwards because Kilcoyne line him up in a tackle, a few moments later, smashed him then gave him a dig when he had Afoa on the deck . Thought that showed his intent he was not going to take any nonsense , played very well some good carries .
Looking like another great find of the past season.

Was a nice tackle that. The kind of statement you want to see your props making. Some have the physique but not the temperament but not this lad. He's got that hardness.
Ya, thought he did very well, especially against an old vet like Afoa. Good around the park too, had a great carry in the second half, smashing all before him. Both himself and Archer are only going to get better with game time. To be fair, I think Penny is the right coach to develop such players too.

over the past few years he's reached that seasoned prop position, I still think 2009 was his best season internationally and he wasn't given a fair shake in terms of Lions selection.

I think that article may casue a bit of a stir in another province, Penney seems to be saying that a certain International prop wasn't getting his own way in the scrums.

Good man Rob let the referees know we won't be quiet if we think there's injustice meted out to us. Refreshing to see.
Killer looks like a young Healy right now, he's left our TH younglings for dead in terms of progression already. He's a bull of a youngfella and as I said on the racing thread his endurance is improving every week. Great to see long term potential and stability appearing.

Killer looking like a serious prospect alright. He's almost a bit unlucky to be coming in under a prop of Cian Healy's quality or else he'd be getting capped much quicker
Plenty of space for the two of them, for my money Healy is one of the best in europe if not the world, its a lofty aspiration for any young prop in any country

At 23, he'll see lots of Irish caps. He already looks a better prop than Tom Court for my money.

With about two minutes to go he was helped off the field. Over on pr it's suggested he was winded but he looked to be in a bit of pain to me.
It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into.
