We witnessed a fantastic game of rugby and wonderful advertisement for the Celtic League on Friday night and today we are dealing with the shock of the death of almost an entire family in a very tragic accident. Very sad day across the whole island and for Ulster and Irish rugby. Really puts things in perspective. Condolences to the Spence family. RIP to the three lost lives.

I never knew him but I do know people that have played along side him and to say they are in shock would be the understement of the year, I am in shock and my heartfelt condolonces to all the family .
    RIP to all 3.

Can even not find the words for this tragedy.
The Scots (originally Irish, but by now Scotch) were at this time inhabiting Ireland, having driven the Irish (Picts) out of Scotland; while the Picts (originally Scots) were now Irish (living in brackets) and vice versa. It is essential to keep these distinctions clearly in mind (and verce visa). Sellar and Yeatman

What an absolute tragedy, haven't been able to wrap my head around it at all. My deepest sympathies and best wishes to his mother, sister and the rest of the Spence family.

From the point of view of being a supporter we in Munster know how it feels to lose a young squad member in tragic circumstances so I'd also like to extend my sympathies to the Ulster Rugby Community. SUFTUM.
Governments don't ask themselves "what can we do that is good for the people?". They ask themselves "how do we persuade people that what we want to do is good for them?".

Can I add my condolences to the Spence family on their tragic loss.

May they Rest in Peace, and may those left behind somehow come to terms with what has happened. I watched David Humphries at a news conference earlier, and he was very dignified and articulate in his comments. Great respect to him, Ulster Rugby, and their supporters also.

Could I add that I was heartened to see the President of the GAA's Ulster Council come out with a message of sympathy.

And the tragedy was marked at Croke Park today as well, at the Camogie final.

Dreadful news. Must be devastating for the poor mother - her husband and two sons all dead.

  23. #137
Please add my sincerest sympathy to the Spence family at this terrible time, and also to all involved with Ulster rugby in whatever way. My prayers are with you.

What a dreadful tragedy, to lose father and 2 sons. My heart goes out to that poor woman and the sisters and the children who lost their dad, God give them strength. From a farm myself and I'd always be scared of slurry tanks, the fumes can make people get light-headed and fall.

Terrible news, my condolences go out to Nevin and his family.

Agreed, perhaps after the game with a tribute video playing.

I'm a veteran Ulster supporter and like many of my fellow Ulstermen have a strange feeling today where I find myself in tears or close to it at times and wonder why? I didn't know Nevin from Adam but feel like there has been a death in the family.

I have registered here because I wanted to say how much it is appreciated how many fans from Ireland and beyond have taken the trouble to join UAFC and post condolences. Also the comments here and on Leinster sites also are much appreciated and show that for all the banter & occasional harsh words, its hard to beat rugby people from wherever they hail. Thank you all.

Terrible news and my heart goes out to the Spence family. I was looking through the weekends papers this evening and I came across the report of Friday's Ulster v Munster A match on Saturday's examiner. There is a big colour picture of Nevin tackling Niall Ronan. Typical play from him getting stuck in. Unbelievable and shocking.

It's been said already by a few, but it's heartening to see the comments on this and other rugby sites in Ireland and across the world.

We are all liable to a bit of WUMery (me in particular), provincial bias and enjoy the banter and rivalry but under it all, we are all, across all four provinces and across the entire island, Irish rugby fans. I can't speak for anyone else and certainly not the Spence family but as an Ulster and Ireland supporter, your kind words are appreciated.

Just heard this on the news this morning. shocking story.
Condolences to their family and friends
    I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain
