What are peoples expectations of tonight's' game? pity to see the Italians fielding a weakened side. I'll still be interested to see how we handle being heavy favourites.
A big evening for the likes of Archer, Beta, Dougall, Williams, Keats, Dineen. If there's a continuing upward trend on the focus and concentration (cutting out the sloppy stuff) then I'll be thrilled. Think Ivan might get a fair bit more gametime tonight, hopefully he'll get a chance to show what he's got.

Woohoo gameday, lets make all the new boys feel welcome tonight!
p.s. Is it just me or can RP totally nail the blue steel look?

Considering it's a much weakened side, I expect a decent result tonight, but it's still all about performance for me. An improvement on last week as evidence we're motoring forward and I'll be happy enough. An improvement on last week, should also provide us with an exceptable results, against a Treviso 2nd string who are away from home.
We'll have to uncuff him and "de-dildo" him, obviously... Smash up the furniture like he was chasing you all rapey. Fortunately, he's Italian so that shouldn't be too hard to sell.

JOHN O'SULLIVAN
BENETTON TREVISO coach Franco Smith’s decision to change eight of the team that beat the Ospreys 12-6 last weekend in Italy and include six forwards among the replacement’s for tonight’s match offers an insight into his mindset.
He’s anticipating a corrosively physical contest up front while content to rotate his playing resources. Only two of the pack are retained, hooker Enrico Ceccato and flanker Simone Favaro while Brendan Williams and debutant Luca Morisi come into the back line. It smacks a little of travelling in hope rather than expectation.
That’s not to denigrate the quality of those who are being promoted to the starting team; most are Italian internationals. Munster coach Rob Penney presided over a gutsy victory last weekend in Edinburgh. The players applied themselves to the task diligently and reaped the reward.
The home side will be looking to continue in the same vein. Early indicators are that the embryonic midfield partnership of James Downey and Casey Laulala is a decent fit; the former traverses gain-lines while the New Zealander offers intelligent running lines and shrewd offloading.
Ian Keatley should be pleased with his contribution and not just in terms of place-kicking. The back line functioned smoothly and, in Shannon’s Luke O’Dea, Munster possess a gem that might not need a huge amount of buffing.
Cork Constitution tighthead prop Stephen Archer faces a proper test of his scrum credentials. Treviso might consider competing on the Munster throw as the home side isn’t fielding the tallest back five combination.
The Italian side will probably feel their way into this match to a certain extent and there’s no doubt Munster can make rugby life a little more straight forward in terms of eking out a result if they start quickly tonight.

New Munster coach Rob Penney will get his first taste of the Thomond Park experience tonight and Treviso have ensured it will be a winning one by sticking out a depleted team for the Pro12 clash.Read more"Playing at Thomond Park is exciting for me," says Penney. "I just have to keep the lid on myself, so that I don't bubble up too much and put the boys off. It will be a wonderful experience."

Read more"They beat the Ospreys and we know that they’re a tough, nuggety team and they’re going to stick at it for the 80 minutes," Howlett said. "If we’re not on the mark physically, we’ll be in for a tough night."
Asked to name the most pleasing aspect of last weekend’s win over Edinburgh, Howlett alluded to the team’s growing comfort with the new gameplan laid down by his fellow New Zealander Penney.
"The interaction between the forwards and the backs," he said. "There was some lovely play by the forwards out wide and I’d like to think some nice play from the backs in close but having that ability to play both styles, either tight or to width, is great to have as a team."

Does anyone know if the park and rides are operating this evening? I checked the official site but I did not note anything.
My wife has hurt her back so parking in the usual spot and walking to the ground is not an option tonight.
Am I the only one thats a bit worried with all the articles that the powers that be have written about our performance against Edinburgh?
Reading "Munster look to maintain momentum" the writer has described the Edinburgh pack as one of the best in Europe. While that is not false, beat up the Northampton, Leicester, Toulon, Racing or Leinster pack and you have achieved something. Being solid in the Rabo opener in an empty Murrayfield is one thing, beating up any of the above at Heineken level is another matter entirely.
So, lads...lets get real for a minute here. We were still a bit sloppy in leaking tries and have a lot of work to do to even half warrant the sudden media attention. Lets see what position we are in around December and then we can pat ourselves on the back.

Let the media say what they want. The important thing is what Penney, Howlett and other players have been saying and that is there is still a long journey ahead before they get settled with Penney's game plan and they need to improve in a lot of areas such as the scrum, defense and line out.

Surprised to see us as being 17 point favourites with the bookies, are Treviso seriously weakened by their changes?

Thats what I'm afraid of. The soundbites are coming from Penney and Billy Holland(?) about how they were delighted about the Edinburgh performance and how the passes were gelling and blah blah blah...
I wouldnt wipe my ass with anything written by certain sport "journalists" - we all know who - but I would much prefer to see no headlines on the Munster website or statements from Penney.
As far as the outside world is concerned, we are a dead and buried franchise that, as the idiot in the Examiner, not Francis, said had "fallen in love with our own success". I would much prefer this mindset to stay and we can stay hidden in the long grass.
Call me conservative, call me bitter! But let the other lads talk themselves up!

Exactly my thoughts as well.....I am really excited about this season but I am trying to keep that excitment to myself and not let it out as I want everyone to think Munster are the 3rd team in Ireland blah blah blah....can't pass the ball blah blah blah......no-one to replace retired players blah blah blah...........in essence we need the press et al to create a little bit of bitterness......BRING BACK THE BITTERNESS!!
I'm going now as well, got a half day at work.Happy days.

Editor-- This article originally said Rob Penney had missed out on the Munster coaching job. That information was incorrect.
He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck either, but a real duck that was actually lame. Maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.
