    Ben Franks... Worth a look?

    http://bit.ly/QBixQk

Ben Franks has requested a release from his contract with the Crusaders. Am I just being greedy?

just a smidge greedy, but he's not going to leave New Zealand. He wants to keep his spot in the all blacks squad, & he cant do that while on the bench for the crusaders.

Plus we have a South African front-row as it is. The next props that play with Munster will HAVE to be Irish, according to the new Non-Irish Player rules.

How does this actually work in practice do you know? We have Botha at TH now. Presumably that means that once he leaves, none of our NIQ's are allowed to be tightheads. But until when? At what point could we sign another? As soon as one of the other NIQ's leaves? Or after an alloted time span?

I'm thinking that we can't replace Botha with an SA or NZ prop. But if another NIQ, say a back, were to leave shortly after, could we replace him with a prop?

He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck either, but a real duck that was actually lame. Maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.

Has anyone heard any more about this player succession policy? I had heard from somewhere (probably here) that the IRFU were proven (shown) that it was poorly thought out and wouldn't work, and rather than announce their 180° and look like idiots, they just stopped talking about it and left well enough alone.

I guess until the time comes that someone actually challenges the policy (did it actually make it to a formal policy) we'll never know if they've relaxed their stance on the policy or if they're going to push on ham fistedly!

From my take on things, it will Leinster's turn next to bring in a foreign tight-head. Maybe then Ulster, then us again, so it could be 6 years before we have a foreign tight-head again.
Now I could have that ALL wrong !

That was the implication, with only 1 province at a time being able to have an NIQ in a certain position. But what if none of them want to take up the option? Do we have to wait in line?

It all sounds a bit of a mess on what's available so far. Hopefully it will be taken out back and shot without too much fuss.

I don't think it was quite as straightforward as a rotation system. My take on it was that Ulster, Munster and Leinster were entitled to up to 5 NIQ's each, one for each position on the field. The provinces would sit down at the start of each season and bargain out who got what position. The only caveats being that there had to be a rotation of the players every 2/3 years. A player can't be offered a second contract once his first expires and if we get the NIQ tighthead spot in the first round then we won't get it in the second or third rounds

Forget Franks. We have Botha & WDP with Killer and John Ryan on the way.

I said it before but I'l say it again:

    WE NEED A BACK-ROW NOW!!!

We seem to be expecting miracles out of young Stander. Thornley knows it, that prick Francis knows it,****ing Leinster know and celebrate it, the entire rugby playing community in Europe knows it. You win games at the breakdown with a mean back row. We have kids. Forget about these illusions of Franks or Conrad Smith coming up. I know through a guy I know in NZ that the talk is that McCaw (aswell Ali Williams) will not be allowed leave NZ period. He is being retained as a mentor for the up and comings. So any chance of McCaw following his mate up here is null and zero. Tis gonna be a bleak year this year I feel!

But as much as we are expecting a lot from Stander, it seems you are expecting nothing at all !
I think we should wait and see.
To be honest, you shouldn't really be expecting a hell of a lot this year. All the players that have left, a new coaching structure, byt the time Munster get going, we could be dead and buried in the HEC. Plenty of time to catch up in the League I guess.

Is he primarily a tighthead or a loosehead? I dunno if he is in the same league as his brother, Ross pwned him when he came on in the second test against NZ.

    No they won't .
team ireland's disastrous 2011/12 season is the whole
reason we're inflicting this gambit on the provinces.
    And rightly so.

Guys, if anyone out there has forgotten
how you felt when ireland swallow dived during our
summer tour to hell, then you seriously need to understand
that this irfu policy is not some evil wizardry from on high.
It's objective is to prevent the likes of pa wallace getting
phoned up on the beach in tenerife to play a test 6 days
later against a mighty pissed off rwc champion team.
It's to avoid a situation where we play the same 10 forwards
through three of the toughest tests in history...

Please lets stop this bullsh!t of decrying everything that
comes from a position of authority, when the reason behind
it is purely to help the team representing our glorious nation.
