How short term I wonder?
Could be good for him if he gets a few games

Munster prop joins London Irish on loan
27/08/2012 - 14:37:45
Munster prop John Ryan has joined English Premiership outfit London Irish on a short-term loan to provide cover in the front row.
The versatile 23-year old who can play at tight or loose-head has made five appearances for the senior team and is one of Munster's promising prospects at prop along with the likes of Stephen Archer and Dave Kilcoyne.
The news comes just days after the Exiles inflicted a 34-10 defeat on Munster at Musgrave Park.
We’ve lost seven of our last eight matches. Only team that we’ve beaten was Western Samoa. Good job we didn’t play the whole of Samoa.

Think it's an excellent move for all concerned. I'm also heartened we appear to have learnt by String's example.

Taz-Where did you get that information as I have seen nowhere that he(Penney) was ruled out?

Editor-- This article originally said Rob Penney had missed out on the Munster coaching job. That information was incorrect.

Good to see him getting a run anyway. The experience can only do him good. Hopefully he'll seriously push Archer when he's back with us

Great to see he's getting game time, 30 mins is a good stint, hopefully he pushes on. Wouldn't be the end of the world if it was a season long loan but doubt it will be unless he goes to another club looking for a few months. Best way for him to learn is to play as they say!
John is on the bench for the game against Wasps again tomorrow. Pity these games aren't on tv, would like to see how he's getting on.

i wonder how going on loan works re the tax breaks here?
I see London-Irish have TOL on their splash page next to the words "Irish and proud". They didn't used to have to try so hard.
Good luck to John (and TOL and Brian Blaney too).
Came off the bench after ten minutes against Wasps today. On the L.Irish board they have a 'man of the match' thread where one poster says he scrummed the sh!te out of Tim Payne
He is getting good game time, would like to see him stay there for the season for his development
The Exiles lost Leo Halavatau on 9 minutes and John Ryan came on as a replacement to make an immediate impact. The man on loan from Munster tore into the Wasps front row to earn Irish two penalties inside seven minutes. The second saw Steve Shingler register Irish’s first points to level the match at 3-3.

Whoever wrote this article is highly impressed by Ryan anyway, he wants him signed up on a long term contract! I'd like to see his loan period extended for the year as long as we have a clause to take him back if needs be. The experience would be great for him but we're only one injury away from needing him ourselves!

I read somewhere, probably on twitter that BJ Botha has a high regard for Ryan and he thinks he'll do the business as prop for us.
"In John Ryan we look like we have finally found a real tight head –In this game he was also the best of our tight forwards around the park. He could become a legend but he does need to get fit."
Hmmm, all I have to say on that one is: Feck off! We found him first! Great move to send him on loan to get some experience but we will need him back soon.
It's great for him, and I hope the powers that be in the Munster set up are following this closely so that they will bring him back when his loan (even if it is extended a bit) is up. Nothing like being out of your comfort zone to sink or swim this is clearly bringing out the best in him. If he brings that confidence back with him next season then we're looking good!

Can I claim my bonus points now for hyping him while he was with College...?![]()
