Murphy has come across as a right whine the last few weeks. His defence wasn't good enough for international rugby, yet he won 50+ caps under EOS. I don't think he can feel too hard done by.

Thornley also wrote his usual Murphy/Kidney fluff piece in the IT during the week, qu'elle surprise. There's no doubt that turnstiles was his inside man over the years, the amount of articles he wrote about the "mercurial" Geordan Murphy was what really began to make me sick of him as a journalist. He's doing the same thing with Kidney now, defending unacceptable performances and selections that he would have filleted EOS for.

Can't, defend and no pace! How the heck did he make it as a pro rugby player?

The Outsider is an apt title. From being a gifted outhalf on the Newbridge team which dared to elbow its way into the “elite” of the Leinster Schools Senior Cup by reaching the final in 1996, to being rejected as being “too slow” by an Irish schools selector who advised Murphy’s father to take him back to Naas and would climb the IRFU bureaucratic ladder, all the way through a 16-year professional career with Leicester Tigers, Murphy has never really been part of the mainstream of Irish rugby.

No wonder GM isn't popular in Leinster/IRFU circles. Obviously EOS was under orders to stick the knife in GM every chance he got.

Indeed. This quote from EOS really shows the hate and contempt he had for GM:

""He is a world class rugby international and we don't often produce them. We have a few at the moment but he is definitely one of them."

Taz-Where did you get that information as I have seen nowhere that he(Penney) was ruled out?
Editor - The writer stands by the Penney information.

    Editor-
    - This article originally said Rob Penney had missed out on the Munster coaching job. That information was incorrect.
