I think you're going to be disappointed.

Munster may not always play a full-on, 15-man game under Penney, but under him, they had better be capable of playing one when needed or conditions allow. Players who can't/don't upgrade their skill set will be out the door.

I'm not sure people have gotten their heads around how much work needs to be done. We haven't been this far off the pace of top European teams since the late 90's.
It will take a good season for Penney's methods to bear fruit. The players may not be in place as yet. Penney has always played the game that rule interpretations and conditions called for, but his teams have always had the ability to play whatever way was required.

Overall, I reckon there will very little change of personnel, what we'll see is different game plans and players playing what's in front of them. We've seen glimpses of good running rugby under McGahan so the players are capable of it. It's just we seemed hell bent of using the same tactics for all games/conditions and it cost us..

Some players will have to up their handling skills, and overall your power will have to increase. For that second reason alone the strangling game is gone from munster for now. Other teams can bully them physically at the breakdown so upping their speed of recycle and support play will be of major importance. There's a lot of young players in there and a new strength and conditioning team in place so lets see how they improve over the year!

Exactly. You have to play to your strengths. And bullying other teams is no longer a strength of ours. We are smaller, but quicker. We need to play accordingly.

Agreed ... apart from the back row partnership with Leamy and Wally gone, and centre partnership, not forgetting the wings and full back, of course, with Felix still out and DOugie back. And er, maybe the out half too. And the second row partnership, if Paulie doesn't make it back. And the team manager, coach and backs coach as well.

But apart from that, I agree completely PW!!

All those changes are in the past and we know our squad for this season, the post I was replying to and quoted stated "The players may not be in place as yet."

Mannix habla-ing en francais - he still has a massive kiwi accent....
He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck either, but a real duck that was actually lame. Maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.

Nice one. The reports said that Deasy put the chip through. Was that Keatley popping off to Scanlon does anyone know? I'm interested to see if they are considering him as a back up 12. Or was it JJ?
