A lot of people don't say ROG or Quinnie for example. I doubt Downey or Laulala are getting all upset and are having a good counselling session with Mr. Penney over a few nick-names being bandied around the supporters forum
Nicknames are grand, if they're good, but some of these are ****.
Ronseal for example, is absolute rubbish, imo. As are the attempts to call Sean Dougal "father ted".

As Huwie says, this thread is just a reference so that people don't feel left in the dark. It's not intended either to encourage or discourage the use of nicknames, simply a recognition of the fact that people do this and always will. Not all efforts will stick, and I tend to agree that I'm unlikely to start shouting "Gwan Ronseal!" at James Downey, even though it's probably no sillier than "Mushy" or "Toasterhead". But it all seems pretty harmless to me, and certainly not worth getting annoyed about.

Fair point, I think though that the ones that do tend to stick - are the ones given to players by their colleagues or indeed some have had the nickname all their life. PS. BEAR was never a nickname given by the squad to Denis Leamy- no matter what JCC thinks..
