    An exiled returned

Alright lads (and Ladetts) I've been living in the states for the best part of 7 years and have returned with a parcel of joy that I did not leave with- a 5 year old son!

I want to start bringing him to games, and get back into them myself, but I imagine demand is crazy? Whats the best way to go about securing tickets? Get involved with a club? (It would be on the organizing/helping out front as I am well past my playing days)

    Thanks in advance !

Oh, and does anyone care to get me up to speed on match day songs/chants/jargon?

Tickets generally aren't hard to come by at the minute so you can probably pick them up week to week except for the big games. There's some sort of family ticket knocking around for most games I think too?

St Senans are in Shannon, Shannon are out in Coonagh, St Mary's are near Corbally. St Mary's I guess could always do with a pair of hands to help on a Saturday or Sunday morning.

5 mins from the city on the clare side. Thomond RFC would be the best bet.

edit. tickets are not hard to come by, but other than family tickets (2 adults, 2 kids), you will have to pay full price if its just going to be the two of you.

Rather apt that I'm sitting in Charlie St Georges waiting for the train looking at a picture of Ger Earls, a product of the 'Thomond Academy ' , what a fantastic contribution they have made to rugby in Limerick.

I wouldn't be in that class of "some".
    What a silly silly post.
Thomond have often been labelled a "tough" club. But they're a great club, who have battled all the way from the Junior ranks to the middle of the AIL.
Playing against them, I always found them tough, but always fair also.

Absolutely. They are as hard as nails in the best traditions of local Junior Rugby. A decent number of Thomond players have gone on to play at higher levels too.

Yeah it was a poor joke, probably realised a few minutes after posting. No offence meant really.

Well nothing much has changed in so far as chants and stuff are concerned. Athenry seems to only put in the occasional appearance now...hopefully that'l all change under Penney. There's also the Isle as sung by Cara.

And for the record, no matter what Cork supporters say, the Banks has not become the Munster anthem

Jimmy Coughlan gets referred to as "Cawlin" so no, its not a typo. Haha...

As for the club to join, I wouldn't be of any real assistance there as I am not from Limerick.

Oh and the standard uniform of all match attendees is a beer in one hand, a programme in the other, as much new gear on as possible - some still with the price tag on it - and a smug sense of accomplishment even though your measure of how much you support your team is by how much you hate the others....OH WAIT. SORRY, I WAS THINKING OF ANOTHER TEAM. Never mind!

Made the trip back myself this year. Everyone still stares into cars as they pass here, just in case you forgot.

Get the young fella playing rugby, your effectively part of the club then and should have access to tickets either through the club or people in the club, try and get the number of the guy who sells them, the guy at my club sends out texts to Alacadoos and then players and finally if there are some leftover, anybody else. Or else buy the normal Rabo tickets off the net, you'll get talking to people at the matches/pub and tickets start being thrown around between people.

Nice time to return home, the future is bright (in Munster rugby terms).

  28. #22
There's usually a sorta mini-season ticket on offer for blocks of Rabo games, keep an eye on the munsterrugby website. the songs/chants won't be a problem, it's the nicknames for the players/refs/coaches that'll take some work.
There's a thread on here somewhere though where we go through a lot of the nicknames.

Senans is your best bet, good Junior club with a great set up, you just missed out on the summer camp for the young fella but mini training should be kicking off soon enough. Lots of rugby on there every weekend. www.stsenansrugby.com
