Quiz Night for Shellie, Shannon Boat Club, Fri 20th Jul.
My niece Shellie celebrated her 21st last December and in May, she should have been sitting her final exams in Mary I. However fate intervened and in April she was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour. Two surgeries later in Cork and Dublin, Shellie is currently undergoing intensive radium and chemotherapy treatment in Cork.
Her parents undertake this daily trip as she needs to come home each day to take care of her hens!
Shellie has adored animals from a very young age, starting with her first pony which was paid for with a combination of Holy Communion and Confirmation money. She covered the stabling by working after school and weekends at the stables.
Two years ago, Shellie took a gap year in order to learn more about the gentler aspect of horses and this eventually led her to Texas in the USA where she learned the art of “Horse Whispering”. Improving the lives of autistic children through this technique has now become an obsession for Shellie, she even has her own website dedicated to it, LeDulra.com.
From fronting many bands in Limerick, some on the stage in Dolans Warehouse, to playing Tag Rugby with “Dolans Dirty Ruckers”, it’s easy to see the tremendous energy this young lady has for life and others around her.
Though difficult, she is tackling this head on, and I hope that the quiz night will help defray the financial burden imposed on her, her younger brother and her Parents.
