    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...breaking3.html

I was at the Stone Roses on Thursday and the amount of drugs I was offered was unbelievable. Never seen so many 40 somethings strung out on E, hash and crystal meth. Can only imagine what yesterday was like.

I'd expect a bit of weed at a stone roses gig, maybe the odd few 90's clubbers getting their kicks from a few pills but not enough to be noticeable, but crystal meth! I'm surprised at that, I didn't even know it was common in Ireland.

Maybe I need to get out more.

Did Ian Brown get flatter and flatter as the gig went on? He was painful come the end of the set in Manchester last Sunday.

Well obviously I'm past my sell by date socially at this stage as well.

It was surreal watching 40 year old men handing out bags of e's and bags of crystal meth. There was no fighting or anything so at least that was something. But wasnt expecting this either.

Overall it was a great gig I thought. Ian Brown never could sing. Even in the 80's he was a poor singer. But he's a great front man and really its the rest of the Band that make the Band if you know what I mean.

Two of the best guitarists anywhere in the world. Without them the Stone Roses have little to offer. Mix it all together and you get a good band. Overall they got better after a slow start. "I wanna be adored" was saved by the crowd.

Just purely out of curiosity, what does a bag of crystal meth look like?

Thought the band were amazingly tight, agree Ian brown is good front man and to be fair to him we saw his third gig in three days which is tough enough on the voice.

Can you imagine the indignation and hand wringing by the national, ie Dublin, media if there were a death and 7 stabbing at a gig in Limerick?

Tbf, anyone who goes to gigs in Ireland knows the nearer a large gig is to Dublin the more scum you'll have at it.
It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into.

Every plan I have is the best plan in the room. Everybody get quiet and listen to it, and everybody will win

I'd imagine without the deaths there wouldn't have been too much mention of the stabbings at this event. Stabbings, beatings and the like are fairly common at concerts in Ireland in the last few years. At the likes of the Oxegen concert there's always terrible goings-on. Even at the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in Dublin a couple of weeks ago there was a load of trouble afterwards with many assauts and that.

Unfortunately it does. It is dreadful that events can't take place without trouble ensuing. I mean you expect a bit of argy bargy when drink is involved. However you don't and never should expect the level of scumbag behaviour which you get at these events. I know people who were threatened with rape and knifing at that Oxegen concert a few years ago. I also know a few people who did security at it and the stories are shocking, including stabbings which weren't thought of as anything too much out of the ordinary by those involved and that is on the victims side.

We all share the same air but we inhabit different worlds, even in a small place like Ireland.

Only good thing about Oxygen is that its big enough to avoid the worst excesses of it. Yesterday it was in your face whether you liked it or not because of the smaller space. But after Thursday night and seeing probably many of the parents whose kids were there yesterday I'm not surprised.

Had a buddy who was a Garda on duty for a day in Oxegen last year!! Said he was shocked at the amount of times he heard "Can a female Garda please report to the first aid tent" coming over the radio, essentially meaning "we have another rape"!!
He also said there was one young lad walking around with a stanley knife slashing skirt-wearing girls in the back of the legs just for ****s and giggles!!

The problem with the inevitable cancellation of Oxegen, is the spread of these scumbags to other events and festivals around the country. It only takes a small few to ruin it for everyone, perversely in a way we were better off with Oxegen as they'd all go there and not be able to afford the rest

"That's what's difficult. You know that O'Connell is going to be the one that will jump for the ball but you still don't manage to steal it. It's kind of annoying

"I talked about it with the Toulouse players, my final in 2006 and theirs in 2008 against Munster. I was marking Paul O'Connell and they were man-marking him too. We knew he was going to jump. But I remember I was in really good condition, with a good lift, but every time I just missed it."
