If they were good Jackie, Ulster, like Leinster Last Week, may have lost. They were not allowed to be good. You could give some credit for that to Ulster, which would be a little more gracious if not entirely accurate.

A lot of Connacht fans blaming Clanger who is always poor and just performed at his usual level.
Connacht played to limit the loosing margin. Never came to make a game of it.

If some of the Connacht Fans are correct and this Fixture has a predetermined Result then you could forgive Connacht for not bothering to get on the Bus in Galway nevermind Playing for a Losing Bonus Point Jackie. I happen to believe it was reffed dreadfully and I cannot think of any other Club Team that would not have lost by Halftime in those circumstances.
I think that's a little harsh Jackie. Ulster were undoubtedly the better of the two sides, the three biggest differences between them being the physicality of the two packs, Ulster's dominance in the lineout and the ability of your backs to vary the play a little more and run better attacking lines (Luke Marshall's try being a great example). But while the outcome of the game was never in doubt for me, as a neutral observer I didn't think Connacht were there to make up the numbers - there were some decent efforts at breaking the gainline by the likes of Na'oupu, O'Halloran et al. I do think that Clancy refereed Connacht more severely than Ulster, with standout moments for me being the Swift penalty, the different approaches he took to early engages in the scrum and the lack of a YC for Marshall. Had the officiating been more even-handed, I still don't think it would have enabled Connacht to win the game, but they might have been able to take a losing BP away with them.
Anyway, onwards and upwards. You going to the Castres game?
Never mind perception because it isn’t real. It’s only what people think. Go out and make them think something else.

the thing is if connacht finish above either of the other 3 provinces then they are going into the HEC to the detriment of either munster ulster or leinster. its almost unthinkable

I didnt say it was a conspiracy Jackie. The Officiating at Key Connacht League Games and particularly this one is generally unacceptable and has consistently been so.
It's the same for all of us, especially away from home.

Taz-Where did you get that information as I have seen nowhere that he(Penney) was ruled out?
Editor - The writer stands by the Penney information.

Editor-- This article originally said Rob Penney had missed out on the Munster coaching job. That information was incorrect.
Being a bit harsh there JB. Clancy was as poor as I have ever seen him, the only surprise was he wasn't giving both barrels to us. I still remember him yellow carding TJ Anderson for 'not releasing the ball' having made a break deep into the Leinster '22 a couple of years ago, beggars belief how he has got as far as he has.
A couple of key decisions definitely went against Connacht, probably not enough to have made a difference to the result but teams deserve a level playing field from officials. Interestingly if Clancy hadn't been so one-eyed and refereed the match with a little more impartiality it might have shook Ulster from their slumber. I don't personally like the idea of going into the HEC having nilled the opposition without having really played well.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain
How do people think Elwood me across in the documentary? Did anyone else think he seemed a little out of his depth?

19-10 win to Connacht. Fairly brutal stuff watching it on the web. But our first in the HEC. About the only positive.

Bonus point loss away by a scratch side against a Welsh Premiership side. That's a decent start...Newport 18 Connacht 14Originally Posted by Tifa

As for Seniors, Zebre was a no win match. Got the four points in the bag, so on to Quins at home...
No, certainly not any more than some of our previous employees. Primary difference is he actually really gave a **** unlike Bradley and a few of the other previous Connacht bosses.
We may not be about to win silverware under Eric but we're light years ahead of where we were on and off the pitch under Bradley the spoofer (what was the score in Edinburgh against Sarries this weekend?...

I think ye have more than a 50/50 chance of beating Biarritz based on what I saw.... It would not surprise me one bit to see ye come second in the group.

I've referred to this on another thread, but Peter O'Reilly has an interesting article in today's ST advocating the appointment of Eddie Cooder to the vacant Connacht job next season. Describes it as a no-brainer. (He also refers to one member of the IRFU Committee who has it in for Cooder, but doesn't name names.)
Current plight my hole....
You want to kill Connacht Rugby, send in Cooder....
Anyone thinking that he will move us forward is absolutely delusional.
Not only will he not progress us, any subsequent coach will also be put off by having to clear up the carnage he'll leave behind him.
Sean Diffley was saying the same sh*te in the Indo the other day. And if that fossil Diffley is advocating Cooder you know for definite it's a wrong un..![]()

We're beggars are we? Since when? We may in the past have allowed IRFU lackies to be foistered upon us but with the PGB in place and more money coming in via IRFU funding, Sponsorship and ticket sales we're in a much better place than we were when "Nephew Of" was given the gig....
