Presumably he wasn't offered a place in the Munster academy this year then. Best of luck to him anyway.

Is it actually their Academy, it just says he's signed for Connacht from what I see? Could be he's getting a contract from Connacht as opposed to an Academy place from Munster.

Good luck to him either way.

Good point it says he has signed a 3 year contract that doesn't sound like an academy contract?

Best of luck to him anyway.

Just reading the article on the Tralee site I'd say you have it right there.

Looks like he is bypassing the academy completely.

I wouldn't be surprised, he's a decent prospect. Certainly think Munster rated him enough to keep him on the books.

If he is a starter on the Ireland U19 team then there must be something about him anyway.

Niall O Connor is gone back to Ulster.

May be on another thread. But thought I'd put it up anyway.

Dillane is a second row. Thought Munster might hang onto him but good news for youths rugby. Kerry producing its fair share of rugby players now.

I doubt Munster would let him go if he was that good.

I'd imagine it's an academy contract initially that can be upgraded depending on progress

As he's still u20 next year I doubt it's anymore than an academy contract

Couple of other signings. Peter Reilly, Irish u20 prop will be joining the Connacht academy. Sligo RFC centre Mataele Fifita is on trial as well

We might have had no choice, but he is highly rated.

A number of lads have gone onto development contracts at 19, JJ and Butler are the two most recent examples for Munster, Conway (and maybe Macken) did the same at Leinster.

Remember when Butler was playing hardball, saying he'd go to London Irish if he didn't bypass the academy straight onto a development deal? Could be something similar happened here. Given the talk I have no doubt Munster would have liked to have kept him, but with the current lock stocks, they couldn't budget anything other than an academy deal so let him go to Connacht, where he can earn a living wage on a dev deal (if he is the type who doesn't want to study then that could have been a big factor).

Qualter is still academy this season. Hasn't really progressed

Gannon, Macca, Swifty, Kearney, Browne, Nolan. We're well stocked for now in the 2nd row

Wilko, White, Loughney, Buckley, Ah You as front row options

Bealham and Reilly in the academy

We're fine in the front row. Loughney can play both sides as well. Maguire relied on power and not technique. Technique is everything at senior level

Has Qualter gone miles back or is it just me?? I thought he was a standout player for last seasons u20s in the 6nations and world cup and i think he has dropped or "rotated" for some of this seasons 6nations and in the fixtures he started he was substituted in those, and than not in the world cup squad, was he dropped by Ruddock?

Have been really impressed by Tiernan O Hallaron, and Eoin Griffin, would like to see these boys training with the irish set up and at least playing A games. Serious potential in these 2 lads

I heard a rumour about Ruddock finding Qualter on the beer when he wasn't supposed to be. Don't know if it's true but it may he explain why he was completelt dropped from the squad for the World Cup

Going back to Dillane going to Connacht, isn't this what most on here wanted. Guys going to Connacht where they had undoubted talent but it wasn't going to develop in Munster. Hopefully it will speed up his development compared to some of the guys still waiting to come through after making breakthrough appearances years back.

I think guys were talking about players like Nagle, DOC2, etc. Dillane is a complete unknown, no offence.
