    one venue

Heard recently …… but not from one of my normal sources …. but someone who would/should know. and based on that was not going to post it but sure it’s a quiet day ……And according to them a decision is to be made pretty soon to move the whole Munster players operation to one venue. Limerick or Cork……. LIT, UL, CIT. depends who gives the best deal/new facility….we shall see.

really after talk and the discussions on this site regards jim williams commenting on the one training venue, lately tony mcghan commenting on the one training venue. think it would be a pretty seismic shift from the way Munster have trained and done their business since they started that their would be one venue they operate out of.

They should move the training base to [my town] because [other town] is a horrible stupid place. This is a serious issue. If I don't get to see [my favourite player] standing in a queue at Dunnes then I'll never support Munster again.

If there is one venue, its going to be limerick, I'll be pissed off a I think its a horrible stupid place, but because they have sunk however many million into Thomond its gotta be there.
I would love to see the blood boiling if it was Cork though

Maybe a few B&I Cup games. Move all games Pro12 and HEC games to TP for good.
We can use Musgrave, Waterford, Clonmel, Cashel & Tralee for the B&I Cup games then.

i think it is a bidding situation, Munster have put it to the various colleges that whoever gives them the best deal / is going to build them the best facilities gets the gig. Cork has every bit as much chance as limerick its up to CIT to get the gig. Munster are trying to emulate the UCD situation and leinster were UCD built them a purpose build training facility, havent seen it myself but meant to be pretty decent.

That's not even an Ivan Drago level facility.

A new single training base may not necessarily be in the same location as the stadium, which is not uncommon for any team. The latest rumblings I've been told is a joint effort by CIT and UCC to make bring serious facilities to Cork - not necessarily for Munster, but I'm sure it could be.

Amazing what you can afford with money thrown in by rugby groupies who are Tribunal targets and megawealthy 'businessmen' in their spare time. Denis O'Brien, whom the Irish public made into a billionaire through our tribune Lowry, and David Shoubotham, ex of evil empire Goldman Sachs, and Tribunal notoriety:
BALDOYLE Corrupt payments of more than £62,000 were made to Mr Dunlop to help in his bid to rezone 250 acres at Baldoyle in north Dublin, the tribunal has found.
It found Mr Dunlop had a beneficial interest in the site, known as the Penine Option, as did developer Brendan Hickey and stockbroker David Shubotham, between 1991 and 1996.

Maybe we could ask Owen O'Callaghan to kick in a few million?

Munster still mull over new training site

    By Simon Lewis
    Wednesday, June 27, 2012
Munster Rugby are still deciding on the best location for their long-awaited single training base although a decision is due by the end of the month, according to sources.
Former director of coaching, Tony McGahan, and manager Shaun Payne, whose tenures finished at the end of the season, both highlighted the need for a single training base for the Munster squad as one of the priorities for the province’s hopes of future success.

In what has long been a thorny subject to resolve owing to the twin power bases in Munster rugby, players have split their time between the University of Limerick and Cork Institute of Technology for squad training sessions, a set-up that requires many hours of potential preparation time spent on the 112-kilometre road between the two bases.

The Munster Branch is understood to have targeted an announcement about their choice of site by the end of June, although the Irish Examiner understands the selection process has not yet concluded.

A final decision would have been made much sooner had it not been for the economic downturn in 2009 and the continuing recessionary climate has meant a new, purpose-built, greenfield site midway between Cork and Limerick is now believed to be out of the equation because of Munster’s current financial situation — the Branch last week reported a projected deficit for the year ending June of €1.052m.

The shift in thinking now points to the use of existing facilities at Cork IT, UL or even at Limerick IT. There are existing deals in place at CIT and UL, where player groups based in those respective cities train separately during the week in addition to collective squad sessions.

Munster signed a four-year deal in 2011 to use CIT’s facilities in Bishopstown, where pre-season training started on Tuesday for players not on the Irish tour to New Zealand.

Sure they are using CIT,they may as well just stay there.
