Thread: Nicknames

    Nicknames

Would someone please post the nicknames/real names of the players & coaches as it can be annoying to read posts that use names that many members do not recognise.

Just to get in early on this, we're going to be coming down harder on insulting nicknames, including (sadly) Houdini for Heaslip.

things like Beta, babydoc, DOCv2.0 don't seem too bad to me but I think most people would agree that calling Borlase "malaise" is insulting.
It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into.

Every plan I have is the best plan in the room. Everybody get quiet and listen to it, and everybody will win

Ah those ones are too easy - add in the Bear, Puppy, plus the Todgers, Chavs, etc for the complete list
The good thing about lending someone your time machine is that you basically get it back immediately

Beta is pretty self explanatory, Donncha O'Callaghan was the first DOC = Alpha.
Dave O'Callaghan is the second DOC so he's Beta.
The Bear, as Dumptruck has said, was a made up rumor nickname about the size of Denis Leamy's hands.
I believe Puppy was in relation to Marcus' physique as a younger man (from years ago? maybe even his Shannin days?)
The team named McGahan Dumper IIRC

He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck either, but a real duck that was actually lame. Maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.

It's the context from which he was thusly dubbed. It's borderline. It's slightly demeaning, albeit meant more humourously than abusively about a particular phenomenon associated with him. It could be perceived as insulting, but could also be construed as a compliment. Because it is with regard to a particular, point in time phenomenon, it is not substantially defamatory, but is certainly not sladerous!

That's my tuppence. PC gone mad I tell ya! I look forward to witnessing the endeavours to police "insults" effectively, objectively and impartially! I'll give you an example. Would "Skinny" now be not kosher to the extent that the hurtful tag need be retracted? Is saying "not kosher" now completely unkosher?
The mind boggles! Best of luck with this Joey et al.! I don't envy your role in trying to ajudicate on the difference between banter and harmless slagging and what might possibly be construed as serious pointed insult and slander...What's next to be outlawed just in case? Sarcasm?

How about Steppy McSteppington for Duncan Williams?
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.
