I went along to the U20 game last night in Donnybrook and it was hard not to be impresses with the Munster lads. The difference between the sides was two opportune tries one from scrum-half David Shanahan and a second coming from a block-down from Tom Farrell at 12 to push Leinster past the winning post .
It was a very competitive Clash right through , the leister pack getting the better of the early exchanges and helping their side into an early 9 point lead. The skill levels of the Leinster side was to the fore as they worked fast ball into space to good effect particularly in the first half. The ref was very poor although he spoke to the Leinster captain on a number of occasions before finally carding the No. 6 Leavy around the 25 minute mark. The Munster lads impressed at Scrum time and countered
with intelligent and “efficient” work at the breakdown.
Scores were level early in the second half 12 all through the boot of impressive Scrum half Brian Haugh. A few minutes later came the turning point when the Leinster 9 Shanahan seems to slip a couple of tackles in mid field to race clear to score his sides first try of the evening which was converted by centre Daly . It was it 19-12 at this stage
Despite Munster being camped on the Leinster Line twice in the next 15 minutes they failed to convert the first time . Leinster were yellow carded their third of the night this time Full back Fitzpatrick was sent to the line . Munster called Scrum and the ref seen fit to turn the ball over as Munster were accused incorrectly in my opinion of wheeling the scrum .
Leinster broke up the field and Munster conceded three points again from a dubious penalty. Munster made a number of line breaks but failed to capitalise on any of them mishandling at critical times or being penalised for infringements. The Leinster management have something to answer for as they clearly influenced a week ref on at least two separate occasions. The home side needed Farrell's charge-down late on to close the game out with the conversion leaving the score 26 – 12 with about 10 to go.
The game petered out as Munster cleared the Bench. On this showing the score line did not reflect what was a sometimes entertaining game on a mild evening in South Dublin ideal for Rugby .
Showng up best for Munster were the front row Horan and Scott, Second Row McCrthy , O’Donoghue at 6 Kiersey at 10 Haugh at 9 a very intelligent player . I was also impressed with Enright at 11 and Scannell at 12 .

A schools squad for their opening interpro on wednesday against Connacht in Musgrave Park
http://www.munsterrugby.ie/domestic/news/10821.php
what is the criteria for A schools as a lot of the lads named i would presume would have learnt their rugby in clubs.
Yeah a few years ago the B schools like you mention and Newtown School Waterford and a few others controlled the A schools side and ensured each school had 2-3 on the team. Nowadays the C schools and associate schools are getting more of a run in. Players who have been dropped off munster youths or were close to making munster youths are now getting pushed into the A schools squad
Some lads are obviously older than youths also, think they beat last years youths in a prep game also which hopefully is a good omen to repeat their great interpro last year. Was wondering is the P. Keating(Bandon) from Clonmel by any chance? fine player if it is. Would of thought that the Abbey CBS would of had a representation as they won the C cup last year, seen their final against Clonmel, fine game, close and tough, they had an excellent 8 and a couple of more, perhaps they have moved on! That Richard Kingston is an excellent 7, really thought he would of got on a higher level, sorry I don't really mean to undermine the As. Really hope that they and their coaches have a great interpro and get some recognition for their rugby.
Some on the A schools are older but this year especially the youths should def be beating the A schools considering theyve been in rockwell all summer getting much more training etc than the A schools whove been training all over the province and less often than the youths
P Keating is from clonmel. Im fairly sure thats a mistake in the article on the website
Maybe those players from the Abbey were 6th years so wouldnt be eligible for this side.
Totally agree with your last sentence. These players deserve some recognition and the chance to pull on munster jerseys in games in Musgrave and Donnybrook.
shame 1 of munsters 2 home games isnt in a Limerick venue, any venue in the city from Dooradoyle to Thomond Park.
Its a shame there was only 1 youths and 1 schools interpro in Thomond this year. As many of these games as possible should be played in Thomond.
Munster should beat Connacht but im not sure how theyll do against Leinster considering theres been no mention of a leinster squad or any games theyve played so far
61-3 win for Leinster Schools over Connacht Schools this afternoon in Donnybrook.
http://www.leinsterrugby.ie/domestic/newsroom/10338.php
Leinster have scored 163 pts and conceded 20 in their three games, and have scored 23 tries and conceded just 1.
would say that has as much to do with the standard of the others. Connacht are rubbish this year anyway. Munster dont look great either.
Leinster school players are 3 years ahead conditioning wise of the other provinces and immeasurably better skilled.
Connacht Rugby
"Live to win. Born to lose"
Munster A schools beat Connacht in Musgrave today 16-0. It was a well deserved win. They were leading 8-0 at halftime.
Munster totally controlled the game and could have won by more
jes thats a huge difference in the leinster scoring
If the lessons of history teach us anything it is that nobody learns the lessons that history teaches us.
Given the number of Schools that leinster have and the population maybe it is time that there was more than one team coming out of that province. A Dublin team for example, I was at the U20 game on Friday night in Donnybrook and yes the Leinster lads were much bigger/Stronger than the Munster lads Skill wise yes ahead but gap was not that big. I would not use the Adjective immeasurably to describe the difference .
http://www.munsterrugby.ie/domestic/news/10834.php
Dont think 2 sides is needed. how would you divide it up fairly/equally?
Skills/awareness of space is the main difference from what ive seen between munster and leinster.
I wouldnt say they are immesurably better. In Leinster resources are used better and with the bigger playing numbers up east the gap is even bigger than it should be. At nearly all levels of u/age representative rugby we dont reach our potential due to many silly things

I find it unbelievable that Stephen Fitzgerald has been dropped unless he's picked up a knock. Himself and Lyons were the outstanding backs in last weeks game.
