Merged the threads, I'd be surprised tbh. I can see why Leinster would want a International class player who's comfortable at 6 or in the second row, especially as they haven't really produced a second row of note since O'Kelly, but I doubt the guy himself would move now unless Munster decided he was surplus to requirements, which frankly, despite having a crowd of second rows, is unlikely.
It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into.

Is he due to extend his contract with Munster and his agent is playing games?? Can't see this happening, this would be a shocker. Having said that playing at Munster does not seem to be doing anything for his international prospects.
yeah they would be delighted to get him. but i would like him to stay because DOC is over the hill. also i just seen this being posted on leinster's forum just a while ago about brad thorn "Heard from a pretty solid source inside the Leinster branch that the contract was signed last Friday. Don't know what his date of arrival is yet, but it's good to hear that multiple sources within the administration are confirming the position." and another poster said "I'm hearing confirmation that he has signed. Anyone else?"

Seems likely Thorn has signed alright. Massive vote of confidence in guys like Toner and Flanagan. Would be cruel (but probably inevitable) if Cullen lost his Leinster place to Thorn, you'd hardly play both Cullen and Thorn.

First full contract in 2006: assuming two-year deals, it's probably contract time alright.

Leo Cullen is 34 and might not be back until after the Heineken cup quarter finals. Mark Flanagan is 21 and has played a grand total of 132 minutes for Leinster. Damien Browne need's surgery and is a woeful player so in fact they do have a lock crisis. I think it would be good for Leinster and Irish rugby to have him there. There young players could learn an awful lot from him and i think he might have a Rocky Elsom type effect which probably brought on player's like sean o'brien and cian healy.

I can't see it happening myself but.....................with POC and DOC on central contracts is there (not their or they're :P) a chance the IRFU whispered to him that should he move to Leinster he would get one?? (presume Leo isn't on one??)

LEINSTER are close to confirming Brad Thorn as a short-term signing, but Donnacha Ryan has emerged as potential long-term solution to their second-row problem.
With Leo Cullen out of action due to an Achilles problem and Steven Sykes, who was signed on a three-year deal, returning to South Africa, emulating Ed O'Donoghue's early departure at the start of the season, second-row has become a major issue for the province.
Ryan (28) has been starting for Munster this season but has been unable to dislodge Donncha O'Callaghan from the Ireland team and, with Paul O'Connell and O'Callaghan both recently signing contract extensions, sources say the Nenagh man is interested in switching provinces.

With speculation that Munster stalwart Mick O'Driscoll will retire at the end of the season and that Billy Holland's contract may be not be renewed, it would leave Munster short on second-row cover beyond Ian Nagle.
Ryan has been in tremendous form this season and would be a significant capture for Leinster, particularly as their captain Cullen is now 34.
Devin Toner, Damien Browne and the promising Mark Flanagan are three specialist locks available, while flanker Kevin McLaughlin has filled in there when required, but Leinster desperately need quality and experience in the position, and Ryan fits the bill.
In the short term, New Zealand World Cup winner Thorn is the target and Leinster are hopeful of securing his switch from Japan.
Assistant coach Richie Murphy stated yesterday: "We are close to finalising a deal, things are looking good."
And McLaughlin is excited by the prospect of having a player of Thorn's ability in the squad.
"It's really exciting. Obviously we've a bit of a crisis at second-row this season, especially with Leo gone to surgery. I've had to go in there a few times, which I'm more than happy to do," he said.
"But to get a specialist second-row in who has just won the World Cup, who has done everything there really is to do in rugby, is just a huge lift for the squad."
Meanwhile, with Tomas O'Leary still in negotiations with Top 14 clubs regarding a move to France, Munster are poised to re-sign scrum-half Duncan Williams for two more years.
While a proposed switch to Perpignan has fallen through, O'Leary is said to have offers on the table from Stade Francais and Racing Metro, although he could still opt to remain in his native province.

It is a Central Contract that he is getting, so not sure why the agent would be touting Munster, as the contract would be the same value whether he played with Ulster, Connacht, Leinster or Munster. Now if he was linked with Toulon or Bath, then its the agent at play...

This would be a disaster if true. Hopefully it's not. Ryan has been one of our best forwards this season, no matter which position we've asked him to play. I am still disgusted for him, after DOC keeps getting selected ahead of him in the 6 Nations.
We'll have to uncuff him and "de-dildo" him, obviously... Smash up the furniture like he was chasing you all rapey. Fortunately, he's Italian so that shouldn't be too hard to sell.
There's more chance of Mack the Knife giving the Bodenstown address than there is of DR becoming a ladyboy.

Not good reading on a tuesday morning. Does this come down to the IRFU being unwilling to stump up central contracts for 3 second rows in one province? If that is what it is all about then where is DOC contracturally? Ryan has been outstanding this season and it is nothing short of ridiculous that he didn't start against Wales and wouldn't have started against France.
He has been excellent this season. But DOC justified his selection against Wales. The amount of work he got through that day was phenomenal.

I can see a lot of sense in this from DR's perspective, but for Munster, DOC will be 37 in 4 years while Ryan will be 32. That said, there is a blockage at 2nd row with Nagle, DOC2 and Foley in line and not being allowed advance as they should. There is sense to this for Munster too.
DOC had a good game but DR couldn't justify anything sat on the bench; when he came on he raised the intensity straight away. Anyway that is a side issue as I don't see how being selected or not for Ireland could be a justification for moving to Leinster unless it is down to the IRFU not being happy to pay central contracts to players who are sat on the bench. Could this all be an elaborate ruse to beat down criticism of the Thorn move: "you'll put up with Thorn or you will have Ryan taken off you".
Are the 3 youngsters ready? DOC2 looks the closest on what I have seen but he looks more of a 6 to me. Think there would be sense if the player who was talking of moving was DOC rather than Ryan.
Cant see it happening really but three centrally contracted secondrows isnt a great thing for the IRFU Then again if they were happy enough to give a fringe player like Leamy a two year contract then tey could give one too Ryan. Ryan Leamy no choice there at the moment.
