Touring with the british and irish lions 2013

hey im currently looking into touring on the lions trip in 2013. Looking for a bit of advice for the trip. I see the lions now have there own travel company set up for the trip but it is £250 to join it for priority booking but is refundable it guarantee's match tickets, flights, hotels etc. just wondering has anyone been on a tour before?? did ye book flights yourselfs?? and get you match tickets in ireland off clubs or provinces, IRFU or how did ye get them??

Would recommend against booking with a travel co, having done both NZ and SA yourself you can save yourself a packet if you are organised (those jackets etc they giveaway are pricey when you add it all up!!).

Less security issues than SA and more accommodation/internal transport options than NZ.

I can only go for 2 weeks lads so will fly to Melbourne around 25th June and fly home from Sydney around 10 july. 4 of us travelling, already saw campervan on net for $3600 aus for the 2 weeks. Would hotel accomodation be a better route to go?

look for hostel's or apartment rentals.. I got some cheap deals through wotif.com last time I went to Oz, but they were last minute bookings. vrbo.com might be an option, their newsletter this morning was promoting australian rentals.
Public transport around sydney & melbourne is great, i haven't a clue about the other cities but would presume there's some reasonable public transport there too.

Thanks Lahich lass. I see Lionstour.com are charging £3259 for flights and tickets for last two tests. Very pricey. Will match tickets be impossible to get?

I'd say not, to your last question. Remember, these are big stadia and RU is down the list in popularity in OZ. I'm going independently and expect to be able to get tickets no problem - remember, they have to keep most of them for the home fans. So what if you're stuck in the middle of a bunch of Oz fans?

Ticketek are the Walabies ticket agents. http://premier.ticketek.com.au/shows/show.aspx?sh=ARU12

They don't have the Lions tickets available yet and probably won't until 2013. For cheap flights in Australia use Jetstar, Virgin Blue, Air Asia and if you are really brave, Tiger who had crap safety record and may be out of business by then.
Hostelworld is a decent site for finding hostels.
Why is abbreviation such a long word?

Listen to this man. I'd also say, aim more for the build-up and first/second tests, because they're the ones that really make the tour a tour.
