    You lucky, lucky man.

Although I did get another eight bottles of McCann's Armagh cider at the weekend, so I guess I'll find a way to cope.

I see that The Blind Pig on Thomas St / Fox's Bow have the excellent Metalman Pale Ale on tap. Question, do ale drinking men of a certain age stand out like a sore thumb in there?

Knowing Dr John himself for several years I can honestly say you'll be met with open arms. A friend to all and an intellectual, can't praise him enough.

Blind Pig and Dr.Johns are seperate bars. I've been to Dr.Johns and had a great time, doesn't stock Metalman Plae Ale. Just wondering how the young rockers would take to a more mature ale drinking gentleman being among them.

    Answers on a postcard please

Blackrock Stout by Dungarvan, very good stout, good bitter coffee nose and great flavour, would recommend. http://dungarvanbrewingcompany.com/products.html

Honey Dew by Fullers, good organic ale. No hint of honey which I was glad of, as I would find it too cloying.

Dark Arts by Trouble Brewing, excellent, nay, outstanding porter from Kildare. Great coffee and chocolate flavours. Best beer of the weekend. www.troublebrewing.ie

I had some Chimay Grande Reserve last night in town, didn't like it, too strong a taste for my liking. I also gave the Caledonia Smooth ale a try and found it nice.

Polished off 2x Ór Ale from Trouble Brewing last night.
Went down well although it tasted a bit artificial (I think), it was a bit too gassy for my liking.
Must try it again when less thirsty (had just finished a v.tough gym session)

Had a baba of the Wychwood Brewery's Gynger Beard (ginger beer) last night and was pleasantly surprised. It was light and very refreshing. Just the way ginger beer should be. It's the first ginger beer I could stomach, never mind enjoy!

It's on offer at Tescos as part of their 5 for 10yoyo offer. Must pick some more up tomorrow!

Had a pint of Caledonia Smooth last night for the first time.
Its like John Smiths, bland. - I should have known better.
The first pint I had tasted of the pipes (popular then..), the second pour was less so but still a very tasteless.

Having spent a fourteen hour day stripping down an engine only to find that the supposed replacement was fupped, then getting another one and stripping that down & rebuilding it, I am now having my first ever bottle of the Brewdog Punk IPA - and I have bloody well earned it! Quite a pleasant beer, but even though I normally prefer beers that bias further towards the malt than the hops, I think I prefer the more interesting flavours of their 5AM Saint.

I'd advise two more, and go on the "one venue" thread. You are sure to be the only one making sense.

Polished off 3 (they were only small) Porterhouse Reds last night.
Quite nice actually. Not as nice as 8 degrees Sunburnt IMO

BAD NEWS though. Tesco Arthurs Quay are out of all but a few Irish Beers. Only the generic English ones left, Spitfire etc.

That Tesco is ****e for the beers, their offie section is small enough (what is curious considering it fuels many of they tramps of the city)

Fullers Black Cab Stout, lovely rich bitter chocolate stout. Will definitely have again.

Some excellent stouts available which make a welcome change from the usual suspects. Apart from the Plain Porter on tap, Dr.Johns also has Belfast Black and the wonderful Dark Arts by Trouble Brewing in bottle.

Just haven't been drinking anything new, tbh. All Sam Adams, Goose Island, Sierra Nevada Pale, Brooklyn Lager.

Tried the Summer Ale and Founders Ale by the Newcastle Brown people (can't remember who owns them now) - neither anything to write home about frankly. Thin and tinny, a bit like Newky itself.

Went to the Meantime Brewpub in Greenwich during the week. Excellent brewery, great bar. Tried the Pacific Pale Ale on draft along with the London Pale, which I have more regularly. Both very good. Had the limited edition Friesland Brown Ale as well - excellent, but won't be around long. Not quite as good as the American Brown from last year.

Off to Bodeans in Soho tonight, so may have more to report on the American front.

Caledonia is a grand thirst quencher and a nice alternative to stout. Drinking pints of Galway hooker yesterday tasty stuff.
Had a bottle of Fullers Bengal lancer nice spicy dry tasting beer. Also had a few Timothy Taylors Landlord Pale Ale, good but not overwhelming. Tonight La Trappe Triple from Upper Brabant in Holland and McEwans Champion.

2 Questions, anyone tried Anchor Steam from the West Coast of the USA?
And where in Cork can you get this 8 Degrees I'm hearing so much about?

Anchor Steam are quality beers. The Liberty Ale is very tasty.

8 Degrees rane should be available from Bradley's on Nr. Main St. And Abbotts Ale Hse. Their Howling Gale is available on tap in the Bierhaus and Electric.

Anchor is a great brewery. At it's best on draught in San Francisco, but Steam, Liberty, Bock, Humming and Summer are all great beers from the bottle. Keep meaning to track down their Brown here but haven't gotten around to it.

Anyone know anything about Barley Wine? I've had Anchor's and Sierra Nevada's recommended, but always associated it with pissed pensioners.
