I'll miss that as I'm away. Think I'm a bit old anyway. Maybe my son would enjoy it.
Nancy Blakes have a beerfest planned for circa Oct 20, no other details.
A mate of mine have me a present of a 6-pack of Magic Hat's #9 not quite pale ale. A nice dry fruity kind of taste. I think its a bit of a novelty taste but pretty good if you're only having one or two.
I like their website also

I had this a while back and didn't know what to think. I agree with the ok for 1 or 2. wouldn't drink much more. I believe the "taste" is apricot. I wonder is the beer we drink bland because of our predeliction to session drinking and thus we will drink more of something that doesn't challenge the taste buds. Has anyone done a "session" on say Dark Arts, or Galway Hooker.
I have had more than a medically acceptable amount of O'Hara's IPA in one session and I felt fine the next day, others have suffered.
I'd happily drink O'Hara's IPA until the cows came home but if out in a pub for a session, Guinness just keeps on going down, down, deeper and down.
You should try Elderwych if its about next June/July. (uk only probably)
Tasted of Elderflower.
Had a session on it one afternoon / evening listening to the Mother Ukers in the sun.
Happy memories, and fine the next morning.
I have had plenty sessions on Howling Gale too. And Galway Hooker years ago come to think of it.
[edit] ive had a session on a load of ales. I think its a matter of being able to 'settle into the pint'.
Brains SA is easy to settle into, as was scarecrow by wychwood (which I had last night - really good stuff)

I wasn't mad about Scarecrow.
Do like the Hobgoblin though; had it for the first time in Gloucester before the 1/4 final. It tasted like victory!
Made it over to Munich unexpectedly due to work and enjoying the Oktoberfest tonight. Bollixed! Nice Spaten, Paulaner and a few others so far. Will be back Saturday for Les Dames
I realised I was dyslexic when I went to a toga party dressed as a goat
Tried O'Shea's IPA from Aldi. Tasty brew.
Just a heads-up for anyone able to take advantage of this - I was shopping today in Sainsburys and the Greene King IPA and Reserve IPA were on offer at £1 per bottle. That's not a typo, they are charging just one of your English pounds for half a litre of ale.

Turns out that the dr johns / pig octoberfest above is cancelled due to some Limerick political BS. They are still hoping to hold a beer/ food fest but it's a bit sketchy so far.
Had a Metalman this evening. Elderflower amazingness! A fresh keg, it just topped the Irish list for me. yummy yummy.

Was at a Blackpudding tasting. Kellys of Newport Co.Mayo was the clear winner followed by their Putóg. In 3rd place came Anascaul blackpudding. A very poor non runner was Horgans. The difference in quality between butcher made and industrial was huge. Just shows what a quality food blackpudding can be. We also had whites by the same makers and some quality sausages. Isn't the pig a wonderful animal.
The connection with beer? Digestion was aided by copious pints of stout.
There's pints of Tenants for €2.80 and pints of becks for €3.00 in Trooms or Orchard or whatever its called these days, super if your goal is getting peeeeeeshed and headaches.
I cannot say I loved either, thats my review.

I'm delighted to have got my hands on two bottles of special Edition Chimay 150, the first new beer from the good monks in Scourmont since 1963. Apparently only 300 cases were exported to Ireland. €15 a bottle I bought one as a gift but now think I'll keep it myself. Problem is I will feel guilty drinking it. It's price has trebled in the US in the last week, they only got 4,200 cases for such a huge market.

A new era of prohibition or even temperance has broken out on MF it seems. Some nice deals out there at the mo on nice beer. Hope to pick up a few Timothy Taylors tomorrow in Superquinn. Pity I'm abstaining at the moment.

World Beer and Hog Roast in Nancy Blakes yesterday. Choice of 50 beers, anysix for €20 or €4 per bottle. A great day out and well supported. More of this sort of thing!
Greene King IPA does nothing for me. That, Landlord and Spitfire all in the "dull brown beer" category for me.
Currently laying into Anchor Steam and Brooklyn Lager courtesy of company expenses in Manchester.
Had Anderson Valley IPA and Amber at the weekend. Amazing beers.
In terms of something seasonal for Halloween, Adnams Ghost Ship is a great beer.

Not a fan of Spitfire meself, just passing on the news about the promo, but was happy enough with the Greene King (especially after spending a few hours dragging lumps of tree trunk up a riverbank). Acceptable without being fantastic, and when it was only a quid a bottle it tasted better.![]()
Anyway, from that comment it would appear you've never tried Titanic Quarter Ale. It actually sucked any residual beer flavour out of my mouth - an anti-beer, if you will.![]()

IPA tasting night in Still House tonight. 6 bottles of different IPA for €20. Contact Des @ 085 810 1067 for more details.
Passed through London last weekend. Took full advantage and had London Pride, Courage Bitter and Bombardier from the cask. Lovely change from the usual.
Franciscan well beer fest kicks off tomorrow.
On an aside I was over in Reading a few weeks ago and a few good casks and enjoyed a few large bottles of pedigree and London Pride but at the end of the day the couple of John Smiths smooth were the lovely on what was a scorcher of a day ! The Caledonia Smooth from C&C is a good alternative to stout.

Tis a hot day drink so it tis. I managed 8 free pints of it during a promotion down the local as I was the only one drinking it and they needed to use the whole keg. Sadly I couldn't make a hole in the remaining 76 !

Dont think I would manage too many pints of this stuff - madness
