Yes it works independently as a tablet. There is a paddle at the back of the keyboard where it sits into it.The keyboard connects via bluetooth to the tablet. Then when finished with both,it slots together as a very sturdy case. The keyboard can be charged using the same mini usb as the tablet and has a battery in it independent to the tablet as far as i have copped so far.Same size and dimensions as an Ipad.

Taz - that's look the business, called to Soundstore (Limerick) today, they dont seem to have it in stock
The have a 9.7" one there for €269 but the keypad makes your one more attractive.
Does the keypad and screen actually seperate so the tablet can work on it's own and what sort of battery life have you on it?
Is there a way to connect wirelessly when wifi is not available by using my 3G connection on my phone?

No idea on connecting to a phone. I know the cheaper models will work with 3G gongles, this does not "seem" to,I haven't worked out how if it does,that's why I got the mobile box for my Vodafone sim. The reason you haven't seen the tab as it seems it sold out in most places it was put in originally. I asked the salesman about that and he wasn't sure it could be done. I wasn't too pushed as he didn't have the model that Taz had shown. I dont know how much I'd really need to link it anyway as for short use I'd nearly always use the phone but it would be a nice option.
If you have an android phone it should support it. (Do you?)The tablet will just see a WiFi connection and connect to it.

Taz, it seems to be only 8gb, the one without the keypad is 16gb.
Do you think/know: Will they be bringing out a 16gb with keypad or is the 8gb enough?

Back into us today,with shops in next few days,also a new tablet which has a 1.6ghz dual core processor and 16gb,thats a very very FAST tablet.,circa €249-€259
