I hope the Pumas have the stamina and composure to keep it going and win. Will be a justification of the new competition. Also possibly a venue to visit at some stage if I get the chance.
Pumas get a relieving kick blocked down, Fran Steyn gathers the rebound and scores

Walsh happy to call pen and advantage for sa but not Argentina...just tells them to play on.

SA lucky to escape with a draw there. Good performance from Argentina, pity they couldn't hold on for the win.
Just back from an Argentinian bar in Madrid... what a night.....
if you could bottle latinrugby passion....
easy peasy lemon squeezy....
He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck either, but a real duck that was actually lame. Maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.
Delighted to see the Argies off the mark. A lot of people still have the opinion that they are whipping boys. Far from it. Especially at home too.
On the number 8 issue I think Lobbe and Read are some way ahead of the rest right now. For both performances and consistency. Both carry well and get stuck into the dirty stuff. Hari and Parisse can be up there on their day but aren't consistent enough for me. Spies and Higginbotham both do some great ruck inspecting. Of the 4 Nations bunch Dave Denton has greatest potential to reach that level but it's a tough ask.
On the Argie fans. I absolutely love them! Unreal passionate about the rugby and well able to down the booze at the same time. Had some great laughs with them at the RWC in Kiwiland. Abiding memory of them was in a hostel in Auckland. I was going into the jacks and all I could here from the showers were about 3/4 Pumas singing Argie rugby songs at the top of their voice. I think a few English lads tried to start up Swing Low but pissing into the wind would've been about as successful for them!
To some up........as Dermot Morgan would have done..........The Argies.......a great bunch of lads!!
Great performance and passion from the Pumas pack last night, in particular at the breakdown- where the saffers were outmuscled for the most part. Pity about the result, thought they did enough to deserve the win.
Sa looked very lateral and didn't offer a huge amount going forward..thought they could out muscle pumas. Argentina were hanging on a bit midway in 2nd Half ( no surprise with rugby calendar) but got their second wind for last 15mins.... i think with Steyn at 10 Sa are going to struggle to close gap on NZ going forward....lambie may be long term solution ...he's a bit like Cruden in the way he plays.

There is nobody ahead of Read. Lobbe isnt as athletic as Read.
Hard to believe Heaslip was quoted in the same sentence by some.
Argies have a rugby culture. This could really launch Rugby there - more so then the likes of Italy. Problem is they have no domestic pro game. They need a few Super franchises to build on this.

Lots of rumours here that Robbie Deans has been offered a "new role" in the Rugby Championship...

EDIT... Looks like he is going nowhere.... apologies for the rumour, but it was juicy enough.....

Qantas Wallabies winger Drew Mitchell will have surgery after an ultra sound today confirmed a rupture of the tibialis posterior tendon in his right leg.
Mitchell sustained the injury during the first half of last Saturday night’s Test against the All Blacks in The Castrol EDGE Rugby Championship in Auckland.
The recovery time for the NSW Waratahs winger is uncertain at this point and won’t be determined until after the surgery takes place.
Meanwhile Qantas Wallabies flyhalf Quade Cooper will be available for Australia’s next match in The Castrol EDGE Rugby Championship despite confirmation today that he has been suffering from a small fracture in the lateral (outer) tibia (main leg bone).
The injury, which was revealed by scans today in Brisbane, was aggravated during last Saturday night’s Test at Eden Park. It had only caused minor discomfort previously and had not shown up on previous scans.
While the injury will be closely monitored, Wallabies medical staff anticipate that it will settle quickly, and it isn’t expected to impact on Cooper’s availability for Australia’s defence of the Nelson Mandela Challenge Plate, which starts when the Qantas Wallabies tackle South Africa in the home leg of that series at Patterson’s Stadium in Perth on Saturday September 8.
Cooper will assemble with the other members of the 30-man squad in Perth this Sunday in preparation for that game.
Mitchell is one unlucky sod.on a related aussie winger story ....clyde rathbone has signed for brumbies ....remember him..??

Taz-Where did you get that information as I have seen nowhere that he(Penney) was ruled out?

Editor-- This article originally said Rob Penney had missed out on the Munster coaching job. That information was incorrect.
Looking at those scrums, it'll be like a fencer taking on a bear for the Crim scrum. The fencer has to be lucky every time: the bear just has to get lucky once.![]()

Hope it doesn't piss with rain or they could go unopposed from about ten minutes into the game.
hope it pisses rain like in it did in Lansdowne (02?) and the pumas mangle the shackle draggers.....

HaHa... little scrummaging baby Jesus.... I love it....
I like to think of Jesus like with giant eagles wings, and singin' lead vocals for Lynyrd Skynyrd with like an angel band and I'm in the front row and I'm hammered drunk!
Dear Lord baby Jesus, lyin' there in your ghost manger, just lookin' at your Baby Einstein developmental videos, learnin' 'bout shapes and colors. I would like to thank you for bringin' me and my mama together, and also that my kids no longer sound like retarded gang-bangers.
Dear Lord Baby Jesus, I want to thank you for this wonderful meal, my two beautiful son's, Walker and Texas Ranger, and my Red-Hot Smokin' Wife, Carley
