Cracking 3-3 draw with Limerick last Saturday.

Very entertaining game. Fair result overall.

Monaghan drew up at Finn Harps on Saturday night, which was a great result for City as it keeps them one point ahead of them.

Mons do have a game in hand, but they still have to come to the Cross, which will be a huge game for both sides.

Seven games left to win promotion.

Next home game is Friday week, September 16, 19.45, St. Patrick's Athletic, Quarter Final of the FAI Cup.

City up in Athlone tomorrow night for another must win game in the League.

Talk is that Harps fielded and ineligible player last Friday night against Monaghan so Mons will get the three points.

That puts them one ahead of City and they also have a game in hand.

Top four all won so as you were in the table.

Still no decision regarding Harps game for Monaghan. (Mons awarded a 3-0 win)

Cup quarter final next Friday, Sept 16, 19.35, Turner's Cross against St. Pats.

Rested several players, which was a shame, as we could have had a good cut off of them.

Playing Waterford tomorrow night in a must win game in the League, down in the RSC.

Great win down in Waterford last Tuesday night, 3-1.

City now in second, two points ahead of Monaghan, who have two games in hand.

Five behind Shels, who have a game in hand.

Three points ahead of Limerick. Both have five games to go.

Top two promoted automatically. Third in a two legged play off with Galway United.

    League Cup Final on Saturday.

And Derry win 1 - 0 - bad luck Cork, clearly Roy Keane's presence at the game didn't inspire the Cork lads.

Looked like quite a decent crowd at the game - I had trouble emerging from Aldi in Ballyphehane due to the bad parking.

Played quite well, kept with them for an hour or so.

Derry just had more on the night. You could see the step up that City need to make.

Good game, however. It was great to get to the final in our second season as a fans owned Club.

Back to business next Friday against Harps in the League, Turner's Cross, 19.45. Another must win game.

City won 5-2 last Friday, but were poor enough. That display will not be good enough against Monaghan tomorrow night.

Mons beat Shels 2-1 to go 4 behind them with a game in hand.

Limerick stayed level with City, who have a game in hand, with a 1-0 win against Mervue.

City have 4 games left to seal promotion or a play-off place.

Won 3-1 on Tuesday night, well deserved.

Squeaky bum time, as Ferguson would say.

Here's the table. 30 game season.

City have to go to Shels on the last day. Mons host Limerick on the second last day.

Anything could happen yet. Great to be involved.

Lemmy the Airtricity league Website has Monaghan on 62 Points from 26 games. What is that all about? Was there some match earlier in the season that they lost but won in the Committee Rooms?

By the way, a pal of mine, a Sligo Rovers fanatic was at the Rovers Galway match at the weekend and he tells me the Galway are the worst League of Ireland team he has ever seen. Third place may be good enough for City

City have a free weekend this week and home to Longford followed by a visit to Shels on the last day. Second place is back in our own hands. Two wins will send us up automatically.

Mons in the driving seat at the moment.

Piquet, Monaghan drew with Finn Harps but Harps fielded an ineligible player which gave Mons an automatic 3-0 victory.

The Airtricity League has been corrected.

One win will get City a play-off v Galway unless Limerick overturn a goal difference defecit of twenty five goals. Of Course if Limerick were to win their last three games, that would mean that Monaghan's maximum points would be 67 in which case, four points give City second place. Monaghan would have to be favourites to win on Friday Night, a win which would effectively knock Limerick out of contention and leave the top three to share out the two automatic spots and the play off spot.

Mons and Limerick will probably both win on Friday night, although Mervue have beaten Mons twice this season.

Friday week will be a massive game in Gortakeegan for both sides.

One win for City will guarantee third place. If Limerick can beat, or even draw with Monaghan, then City could be champions.

As it stands, second place is in our own hands and we would have taken that a few weeks ago when things looked far from this.

Monaghan win with a late goal at Mervue, to go top of the table.

Limerick beat Athlone to stay in touch.

Lim, Mons and City, two games each left.

Shels were in the Cup and have a replay tonight. Three League games left. They now play next Saturday, Tuesday and Saturday to finish the League.

City were on their week off so return to action on Friday against Longford in our penultimate game.

Shels won last night to go top and secure promotion. Cork City have secured at worst a play-off against Galway. As Lemmy has said above if they beat Shels on Saturday night, they will go up as champions. A draw would put them up in second unless Monaghan win by 28 goals on Saturday. A loss would leave them in third unless Monaghan fail to win in which case they would be second.

A win for Monaghan would keep them in third or would put them second if Cork City lose. A draw would be enough to keep them in third unless Limerick win. A loss would also do if Limerick lose. If Limerick draw, Monaghan must lose by less than four to stay in third. If they lose by four, it will go to goals scored. Monaghan are nine ahead at present. [ a 4-0 loss by Monaghan and a 10 all draw for Limerick would put Limerick in third. Unlikely]

The best that Limerick can do is to get the Play-off. For that to happen, they must win and hope that Monaghan don't or draw and hope that Monaghan lose by five or more.

Yeah, congratulations to City and to Lemmy ! They've fought hard to get the club in this position, and for once there's a Cork soccer team that is free from the destructive influence of dodgy chairmen.
