Interesting that theres no public warning that should there be a repeat occurrence that he will face harsher sanctions. Given their dearth of options thats hardly surprising .... were they to ban their louts from playing theyed be worse than Scotland but between Phillips, Henson Powell et al theres clearly a serious drinking culture established in that squad

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Good to see that an 'indefinite ban' in Wales is about a month long

I stayed in Chichester - sedate, historic town, roman villas
etc, in England - a couple of times in the late 90s/early 2000s,
the McDonalds there had bouncers on the door. It's nothing
odd or new.

What? A harsher sanction that a 2week ban in the off season? That would be far too strict for the WRU.

The drinking culture sounds very like Man Utd with Robson, Whiteside, McGrath et al, prior to Ferguson coming in. The spineless response from the WRU hardly acts as a deterrent.

Mike Phillips: Bayonne suspend Wales scrum-half

Bayonne have supended Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips until further notice amid allegations off off-field misbehaviour.
The club told BBC Wales Sport that Phillips, 30, and France wing Cedric Heymans are both suspended.
In a statement, Bayonne added: "The off field behaviour of Mike Phillips is unacceptable and he has been fined. He has also been suspended until further notice."

“Just because some are bigger names, it does not mean they are protected and above the group”
Bayonne statement

Heymans' suspension follows comments made about club fans in local media.
The statement added: All players are now warned, the club will no longer alow misconduct on the part of players and they may be exposed to greater penalties.
"We have enough quality young players at the club.
"Just because some are bigger names, it does not mean they are protected and above the group.
"Through these measures, I also want to preserve the vast majority of players who give back and get involved on a daily basis for the good of the club.
"Finally, it is to respect the fans who invest in and support their team."
Earlier in the week Bayonne announced 2009 British and Irish Lion Phillips was to undergo surgery to a hand following an injury suffered in training.
That meant he would in any case sit out their Basque derby at Biarritz on Sunday.
Bayonne are sitting second from bottom of the French Top 14 with seven points from six games.
Phillips signed for the French side in the summer of 2011 from the Ospreys.
The Bayonne suspension comes 15 months after the former Llanelli, Scarlets, Cardiff Blues and Liberty Stadium star was suspended by Wales.
On that occasion, in June, 2011, Phillips was disciplined following a late-night incident in Cardiff outside a fast food restaurant.

I see his attitude hasn't improved, teams will put up with him because he's very good. When his legs start to go he'll be discarded in the blink of an eye, nobody will go to any effort to put up with a fellow like him if he isn't head and shoulders above the competition, in stark contrast to someone like stringer he won't have a long career with a top club deep into his thirties.

Just happy with the result, no matter how it happened.
Reminds me of a certain match-winning-nonsense try v Ireland.
Good things happen to those who wait, though mostly much too late.

BOD, POC & ROG all seem to like him a lot - ROG and himself have a bit of banter on twitter. Thought Phillips spoke very well after Wales beat Ireland in the World Cup (MOTM award) - said how much respect he had for the Irish lads, POC in particular from playing with them on the Lions.

Which to be fair wasn't his fault so not sure why people keep digging at him from it - do you want Stringer banned since he throw a match winning lineout from 3 feet inside the line to Leamy to score?

Not that much really. Afflelou is lashing out at everyone because the Rowing Club are playing crap this season. If they lose badly in the Basque derby this afternoon, then I'll be very surprised if he doesn't sack Lanta.

"Phillips was summoned to a showdown with Afflelou, who spends much of his working life in Paris and returned from there on Thursday, after news broke that the player had been seen in bars in the early hours.“I’m furious, incandescent with rage,” said Afflelou, who made his money as France’s Mr Specsavers. “What he did is unacceptable, completely out of order for a professional. It shows a lack of respect for his team-mates as well as for the public. This is not the first time and we’ve all had enough of it. It’s shameful. He won’t play for us until further notice and we are going to impose a financial sanction. And I can tell you that it won’t be a measly fine, not like a parking ticket or anything. I want everyone to know what this means.”

UPDDATE - Bayonne won the Basque derby 16 - 15 with a last second penalty from Boyet.

Bayonne lift Phillips' suspension

Looks at though Afflelou's hissy fit has ended, after Sunday's shock result.
