Opened with the man in black and now the radioheads.

This could be a superb 90 mins (for those of us who haven't seen this special already)

YouTube them good sir, they've influenced countless current acts.

Actually might I suggest you treat yourself to a free copy of their album 'in rainbows' online. They asked people what they thought was fair (nothing) you might be surprised

    Noted.

Perish the thought, but Tom Jones on BBC 4 is beginning to tempt me. And I'm not a great Tom Jones fan!

That was superb. The Jools and Billy preston clip was sublime.

Enjoyed it immensely apart from Sir Paul at the end.

Cannot stand him. Mind you I saw the decline in his voice over the last 13 years listening to the recording then (1999) in comparison to his olympics performance. I suppose he is 70 though.

He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck either, but a real duck that was actually lame. Maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.

    Damn straight Leaky Boots!!

took 4 years after hail to the thief but it appears (to me anyway) to be their most focused and concise album ever. The pacing is excellent, it opens at a gallop and maintains it throughout.

Yorke was in a very very rich vein of form at the time though, the eraser had been released the year before and that thing is a masterpiece. Harrowdown Hill is one of the best songs I've ever heard and tragic at the same time. Old Dog you may be interested in the lyrics, Thom Yorke has stated on a number of occasions its about former weapons expert David Kelly

Thom Yorke from wikipedia: "The government and the
Ministry of Defence... were directly responsible for outing him and that put him in a position of unbearable pressure that he couldn't deal with, and they knew they were doing it and what it would do to him... I've been feeling really uncomfortable about that song lately, because it was a personal tragedy, and Dr. Kelly has a family who are still grieving. But I also felt that not to write it would perhaps have been worse." In another interview, Yorke said that "Harrowdown Hill" is "the most angry song I've ever written in my life. I'm not gonna get into the background to it, the way I see it... And it's not for me or for any of us to dig any of this up. So it's a bit of an uncomfortable thing." Yorke also notes that "'Harrowdown Hill' was kicking around during Hail to the Thief, but there was no way that was going to work with the band.".

It might even have been better than that!! The (partial) Squeeze gig from '82 that was on beforehand was great too.

I look forward to seeing what BBC4 have to offer every Friday. It's always music from circa 9pm.

Having managed to break a glass into hundreds of tiny fragments which had to be swept from underneath the sofa, the chair, the computer, the coffee table and the radiator - after a fall of about a foot - I'm finally back to watching this again! Santana's performance was sublime, loved the Hendrix cover.

Indeed it is. Love the eclectic nature of it. Managed to convince my 14 year old daughter to sit through it with me tonight and she's hooked.

That's my good deed and one of the resolutions taken care of!!!

    Happy New Year folks.
