Good munster support on Saturday but supplemented by UK fans. Despite this ground still a good 5000 short of capacity.

For the first time since i have followed Munster i got an email on Friday from the Branch offering tickets for Toulon game.

Is this asign that crowds are on decline?

Is it lack of interest or economic times?

There were a lot of empty seats in a lot of the games. Worrying enough for the HEC.

A bit of both I'd say.

Luckily for us we were able to blag a taxi on saturday to make it just in time for the kick off, as we were leaving it looked like there were a lot of people left in the bus and taxi q, any reports of people not making the game ??

I think it is due to a number of factors.
1.
Economics. Not as many fans travelling due to the costs involved.

I think in the HEC at the weekend that a lot of games were played in larger grounds in order to maximise the capacity. This means grounds do not look as full but that does not mean fewer bums on seats.

it will be interesting to see TP next weekend. I thought it would have been full for the ospreys a few weeks back but is was around 20k I think. this might be something to do with the Magners league being free to air on terrestrial channels. A warning for rugby about making HEC free to air.

If attendances contnue to be low then then could reduce the prices for some categories of tickets in order to broaden the support base.

I dont think L Irish helped the situation but holding on till a week before the game before they sold single match tickets.

Price was also an issue, plenty of comments on their forum about the sharp increase for the HEC games

People are broke and can't afford to be travelling to a dump in the outskirts of London, team is aslo devoid of idea's and fans are getting a bit pissed so combination of both but mostly economic reasons imo.

Economy, economy, economy.

It has SFA with on pitch performance. I have spoken to a
few guys of late who mutter about the performances this
and the performance that, but when you drill down, it's all
about fewer shekels in the old phóca.

Putting a few quid aside for the kid's Christmas pressies, or
keeping an open corner of the old plastic friend for same,
suddenly features more prominently than a rugby w/end
away/pure skite.

I happen to think the IRFU dicking around with
packages/prices for Croker & the AI's & 6Ns will help boost
provincial attendances, at least for big games.

Not sure why but there is still a perception out there among the
casual match goer that tickets for thomond Park are hard to
get..even for Magners games.
Have heard it from a few people recently after the O's game. Would
have gone if i got a ticket....obviously didnt try too hard

For the HC matches i can understand it a bit

Plenty of gaps in the crowd. London Irish screwed up big time by holding back on the single tickets.

LI and their three ticket packages probably caused allot of the shortfall they though that the Munster people would buy them guaranteeing financial sellouts for the three home games. Then releasing single tickets to late in the day flights prices etc proably all impacted.

Leinster didn't sell out the RDS last Sat. Premiership crowds have been down, people can't afford to travel to each & every game.

HEC Group games before Xmas never have full attendance.

Plenty of competing factors.

I wonder how the Hotels are doing?...the last few years they have been building a money gathering machine..closing the normal restaurant...doing match day buffets etc. mind I understand these matches are vital for them.

This is the first year for ages we are driving up and down on the same day. Just foudn all the stuff around the match was getting dearer in price and poorer in quality.

Was meant to be there this weekend with my Da and another friend, we couldn't travel in the end due to family funeral. We sent our tickets over with a friend who was going to sell/pass them on for us (dunno if he managed it). Will hopefully get to Toulon instead.

The corresponding fixtures last year in the Madejski Stadium had less than 12K, this year according to the ERC site the attendance was 20K.

Ulster didn't sell out Ravenhill either.

Stayed in Central Reading Hotels (did exactly what it said on the tin), and the guy there said that most hotels in Reading were solidly booked out.

Not even when Reading were in the Premier League and playing Man U had he known it so busy...

I didn't see the slide. They usually have a big wheel in simmonscourt at christmas, but I missed the slide. I wouldn't have minded a go on some swings either.

Economics- I reckon that it costs me around 200-300 euro every match I go to, flights hotels tickets beer money....I did go Sat and was to go next sat but can't go now- though that is a Passport issue.Could fly Aerlingus but add another 100 euro to cost becomes prohibitive.

An email offering extra tickets was sent out for the Montauban home game a few years back, so not much different.

No attendance given for Saturday but if there were more than 300 empty seats in the RDS I'd be surprised.

Ok, as long as you've prepared yourself.

According to ercrugby.com Leinster managed to get 17,936
people into a stadium for 18,500.

Ulster got 7,777 people into a stadium with a capacity of
11,500.

To be absolutely accurate, the figure is 17,940 as the
scanners weren't on when the non-honeymooning members
of the OLSC committee arrived

Lads, even for the Ireland V England 1st game in Croke Park there were some empty seats.

From my seat in the North Stand there were a few empty in the top corners of the South stand but other than that the only others were the s**tty seats in the Anglesea specially reserved for away fans.

True enough, but attendances are down in all sports this
year, same for concerts etc.

I can't say I'm too surprised, the economy has to impact at
some point.

Yeah theres no question the last few years has seen a decline in attendances,i suppose when you look at the downturn in the economy its understandable, there seemed to be a good number of munster fans in the crowd last saturday though ,but then again there were probably alot of brittish based fans at the game aswell, theres no doubt there`ll be plenty of tickets floating around next saturday,

Does it have anything to do with the hyper inflation thatoccurswithin Ryanair and Aer Lingus and Stena when a Munster away match is announced ?
