Multiple sponsors looks good on lots of jerseys. A lot of the Aviva Premiership jerseys look class with them as do the French Top 14 jerseys.

Dont understand why Toyota are pricking around about a new deal. Audi,BMW or VW will gladly take it on as the German car companies see the benefit of Rugby as a strong sponsorship !!!!

TOYOTA Ireland has said that “no decision on an extension” to their title sponsorship of Munster Rugby has been taken, amid rumours that the contract is not be renewed when it expires next year.
Toyota’s partnership with the province is estimated to have been worth in excess of €13m since it came on board as principle sponsor in July 2004, but is due to expire in June 2013.......
Another year to go and a full season of rugby coming up and Toyota haven't taken a decision yet. There's a surprise, Alan must have a lot of time on his hands....

Sponsorship deals though normally have a finite term.

I've little doubt Toyota will have suffered in the economic dowmnturn, so perhaps funds are either tighter or maybe just aren't there for renewal.

I've no inkling what Munster are thinking. They'd be foolish, even at this relatively early stage, not to be courting potential new title sponsors. The revenue is very signifiicant.

Sponsorship money is crucial to the development of teams these days. I'd have no problem having multiple sponsors on the jersey

Toyota recently re-signed POC as a Toyota Brand Ambassador until 2015. He is to be seen posing in his Munster gear beside his Toyota Land Cruiser.

Katie Taylor & Micheál O Muircheartaigh are also brand ambassadors.

Toyota pay a premium to be the only sponsor on the jersey.

Sponsorship not taken as red as Toyota deal nears end

    By BRENDAN FANNING

Munster expect to be looking for a new sponsor at the end of the season as Toyota are unlikely to renew their latest three-year deal.

The relationship between the car manufacturer and the two-time Heineken Cup winners goes back to 2004, the longest of its kind in professional sport in Ireland and one of the most enduring in European rugby.

It is understood Munster are already testing the market to fill the substantial gap. Toyota were pumping €850k in cash into the organisation on an annual basis, as well as €150k in vehicle support.........

HARD SHOULDER: Audi Ireland has reaffirmed its position as the number one premium car brand in Ireland with the announcement that its market share increased to 5.5 per cent for the month of August. In the first eight months of 2012 they have surpassed their total sales figures for 2011, with 3,410 units sold.
Audi says it’s investing €80 million into its dealer network nationwide, opening new Audi terminals in Waterford, Galway, Sligo and Naas before the end of the year, with a further three due for completion next year.

VW sponsor the IRFU: vehicles, Tag-rugby and a few other bits:

Volkswagen Ireland has today announced it will be the official motor partner of the IRFU. The new deal means that Volkswagen will become title motor partner for the Irish rugby squad until 2016.

I had heard a whisper that Toyota were ready to re-sign, but obviously sth has changed. I would not be surprised to see a VAG brand on the jersey next season, but I haven't heard anything.

Unfortunately, whoever it is will pay less than Toyota did - that's the way the market is.

Expect to see Maximuscle on the jersey somewhere next season also, they are the new supplement supplier to Munster.

The car thing would actually be quite interesting as a lot of the players are driving complementary toyotas, any idea what the requirements are for a player to avail of these? Just around Cork Ive seen POM, DR, Holland and DOC and previously Fogarty. Ive just realised also that I'm a stalker!

There'll be no sponsors "going farwurd " However, there is a plan in place for collection boxes in pubs and fund drives such as tables and scratch cards set up outside High street shops and school kids bag packing in supermarkets. Yes We Can. And the bonus is we won't need the names of the likes of dodgy automakers or dodgy banks painted across our swollen supporters' bellies! ;-)

Is it just me or does 850k with a few cars thrown in for a few players seem smallish money for one of the most popular jerseys in the world?

Hard to know with rugby. In general rates for shirt sponsorship in soccer are going through the roof, so much so that Chelsea apparently were peeved when Samsung decided to take an option to continue sponsoring their shirts until 2015 for only ST£15m per year. Given that apparently Samsung were in two minds before they won the cup with big ears difficult to say how true that is. ManU's Liverpools and even Sunderlands apparently are mind blowing figures. But then soccer has massive worldwide appeal which rugby just does not have.

Munster have plenty of appeal one would assume but it goes to show how important a good run in the Heino is this year. I dont know perhaps we could put Bitten & Hisses and a gold snake on the shirt for loads of dosh?

I remember reading somewhere a few years ago that Munster Jersey sales was the second only top the All.Blacks in sales.
But maybe Toyota dont have the budget.
Maybe the appearance of scumbags wearing them in court hasnt helped.

I suppose if someone wanted to run some firgures like club payroll budget as a % of sponsorship funding for a couple equivellent teams in each of the sports you might see if it is out of kilter or not...

This just reflects Audi's position in luxury brands. What has happened is that as Audi is thought to be not as luxurious as BMW and Merc, their sales are up as they buyers don't want to be rubbing a new BMW or Merc is someones face where as it is okay if it is an Audi.
Toyota is getting hit in China now so on a global basis they aren't doing well at all.
In terms of Ireland I see Keary's are no longer agents so perhaps they are questioning their investment and presence in Ireland anyway given how poor sales figures are.

Luxurious is the wrong adjective IMO - M3 drivers aren't looking for luxury.

Anyway, the reason I posted this is to demonstrate that Audi are no longer a niche player, and that one of their stable-mates already has an excellent relationship with the IRFU.

AFAIK, Ireland was the first Western country where Toyota got to Number 1 selling car, which gave its then Irish head, Corkman and Munster fan Dr Tim O'Mahony a lot of clout with them - he drove the Toyota sponsorship deal with Munster from their side. When Toyota came on board in 2004, we had yet to win a HEC.

But we were always in the shake up semi final's or final's. There was also the chasing the rainbow aspect of our pursuit of the Heineken cup.

Simply put we have not performed well over the past 3 years in the main competition to be as attractive as we were to multi national brands. Obviously we would want a new deal in place for next season but we are in no mad rush to sign a new deal at the moment. The Heineken cup is always important but it takes on even greater significance this season given how poor we have been in the last few years ..... so no pressure Rob.

If Toyota do come back on board again, the money would be smaller and we probably would see more than one brand appearing on the jersey for the first time. I personally don't like it, makes a jersey look like the side of a bus.. but times is tough. Seriously, can anyone see Audi wanting to touch Munster ? .. wont happen.. they'd be more likely to run with our Leinster cousins. Keeping Toyota on board should be a priority though.

Why should keeping Toyota be a priority ? If they want out, let them out , there will be someone else.
