Patchy run out for Manning at Xv put some pressure back on Newcastle this weekend.

Try at one end, before a brain fart led to his coach saying this to the press:

"It was just mad," he said. "We were sitting comfortably at 20-7 up, zero was on the clock and we got an absolutely tremendous defensive turnover. Instead of kicking to touch to finish the half, somebody decides we are going to boot the ball downfield straight to the Leeds players, who then went and scored. He apologised after the game, but I'm sick of hearing it.

"These are experienced players that I have brought in, but it's just utter madness."

The "somebody" was Manning. Newcastle still have the better run in and a game in hand, but I think he might be in for a long week at training.

Newcastle coaches do a nice line in public criticism of players.

I am sure the 14 other players were blameless in trying to
    stop the try.

Newcastle were s**t when they had the best outhalf in the
world, what hope have they now?

It was a pretty woeful passage all round, but Manning's contribution was odd. Leeds had (I think) conceded a penalty about 5-10m off their own line, which he took as a quick tap, ran a couple of yards and then booted up field. Not sure what he was thinking.

bad form to single out players (not even by name in this one - 'somebody decides'-)
maybe the gatland approach is about to catch on.

Isn't this the same coaching ticket that tore Timmy Ryan a
new one in a post-game interview earlier in the season?

If a player isn't up to scratch or makes a bad decision by all
means tear him apart behind closed doors but these boys
need a crash course in man-management.

hmm rips apart a player who scored one of their 2 tries on the day .. that is a coach who definitely needs a lesson on brain usage before mouth opening.

Seemed harsh, given that it wasn't the winning score. There was plenty of to-ing and fro-ing after that.

To be honest, if Leeds' execution hadn't been sopoor Falcons would have been beaten out the gate in the second half. They must have conceded penalties or scrums in the Newcastle 22 on five or six occassions.

I read it, it just strikes me thats some pretty strong accusations to be making. What part of what Balla Boy wrote do you believe to be lies?

Funny, I felt the same way about what you wrote originally.

I'm not questioning BB, I'm stating that calling something
you did not see as being unbelievably stupid is a bit harsh.
You not only did that but you came up with your own
version of what happened with "realised he had no
options", I'd love to know how you spotted that! He may
have had options but they were quickly closed down or he
may have wanted to draw their FB up then kick it
    downfield, who knows.

Tim Ryan is no where to be seen these times, just like Dave Ryan at Munster.

I suppose they are doing well to be picking up a wage out of rugby.
"That's what's difficult. You know that O'Connell is going to be the one that will jump for the ball but you still don't manage to steal it. It's kind of annoying

"I talked about it with the Toulouse players, my final in 2006 and theirs in 2008 against Munster. I was marking Paul O'Connell and they were man-marking him too. We knew he was going to jump. But I remember I was in really good condition, with a good lift, but every time I just missed it."

Newcastle coaches are trying to bring through a lot of young lads because they don't have the money. Constantly slagging the (slightly) more experienced guys in front of the media is NOT going to make anyone feel like having a career there. It's really poor coaching and if it's down to the pressure they're under then maybe they need to consider are they up to the job.

Tim will be dusting off his CV. Hard to see who will want to take a punt on him now.

Dave Ryan would be as decent acquisition for many sides.

Can't see too many sides being interested in Tim Ryan after that 30 meter northampton scrum.

That would be the Dave Ryan getting surgery on the injury sustained
    against Connacht, yes?

Jeremy has left Newcastle according to various reports. Apparently it is down to "a change in personal circumstances"

He never really fulfilled the hype that came when he first signed. Pity.

some might say sacrificed to the project that was believing TOL was a SH - his piss poor passing ruined Manning. I lost count of how many times he was forced to take passes head height and above as TOL was allowed to learn a core skill in match, at the expense of another youngster.

TOL has been a 9 from the start of his career. His caps and Lions selection were all as a 9. He's 29 in October. He played a very small number of games for us as a centre and wing. I'd be surprised if he lines out for L.I. anywhere else but 9.

    He's no project 9.

I wasn't suggesting he was moved to SH, I was suggesting that we persisted as a pet project of Kidney's with a SH who couldn't pass (among other limitations to his SH game, though the others were experience based). As a consequence of having to play most of his early games outside a SH whose pass would be anywhere within a 3M square area around the OH, Manning's development suffered. IMHO at least.

And just missing a drop goal late in the 2nd half that would probably have won the game. A good trier for Munster, but unfortunately didn't make it. Good luck to the lad.

He was a skillful player but I reckon he was helped off the pitch more times than he walked off. Shocking tackling technique and even worse glass jaw.
