I thought he was very impressive in the A game v Esher - though it'd have been hard not to impress given the end score. Maybe a Garryowen fan could comment on his performances in the AIL but would imagine he's improving as he gets used to a higher standard than he'd previously been playing at.

Fine Limerick accent too.

He could benefit from playing a few seasons in Connacht.

If he was seen as a serious option. Munster wouldnt have

Maybe he has the potential. It took Sexton and Keatley a few
years to reach their potential.

He needs professional experience. Has to go somewhere to
get a game.

Cusack looks to life after Munster

Published on Thursday 3 May 2012 08:57

VERSATILE young Limerick rugby star Declan Cusack hopes to continue his highly promising career away from Munster with confirmation that his time with the province will finish at the end of the season.

Cusack enjoyed a remarkable 24 hours last weekend when he won a British and Irish Cup medal with Munster ‘A’ at Musgrave Park on Friday evening, before playing a key role in Garryowen’s Bateman All-Ireland Cup success over Ballymena the following afternoon at Templeville Road

I think there are a couple of teams in the English championship who are looking to sign him.

Came to this level of rugby late and never quite looked up to Rabo league standard when I saw him. He fell between the stools a little bit as well in terms of whether he was a 10 or a 12. Hopefully he can get something in England or France and with some regular rugby first team rugby you'd never know. Great way to finish with Munster given that he was involved in the B&I cup win including coming off the bench in Donnybrook.

Good to see that he has options, always felt he was a bit green when he stepped up, best of luck to him.

Best of luck to that lad. If he was brought in a bit sooner you never know. Could see him land a spot with a Championship side in England, and you never know after that.

Does anybody know if Andrew Burke is heading anywhere for pro rugby? Pity to see him fall totally out of the system.

He was on trial with Wasps during last season but it didn't work out, been playing for the Cookies all this year.

It's abit strange that he is moving on, as I can remember Pat G announcing he had signed on for another year at the last Q&A in Dolans.

just before the mid way break, Uncle Pat was asked about "Declan" - he responded with, "I'm glad to say, we have just signed Declan Cusack for another year" or something along those lines

It's weird to read the end of this thread if you go back and read the start. There was high hopes for him 3 years ago, never came about. In a way this is why we shouldn't lose old threads, looking back it's a sense of seeing how players develop across that years that is interesting to read through.

You could probably throw him in under the vein of Tom Hayes - he could go to England and be a success.

Well he is gone to Spain on one year full time contract with Gernika, according to Limerick Leader he says he will be hoping to work his way back to a Rabo Direct Team or English team the season after. Will be playing in the Amlin Challenge cup against Worcester, Perpignan an Rovigo. Hopefully he will work his way to an English Championship team the season after. Any thoughts

Don't think he was ever going to make it just didn't have the raw talent but worked hard.

Best of luck to him.

Could work out like Downey who went to Calvisano to Northampton.
The Gametime and new perspective could give him new life.
I always hoped he'd make it, was getting bigger and bigger as well as more and more confident since he moved to Garryowen from Thomond.

Best of luck to him!

Isn't he the one who turned down an academy contract after he finished school ?
If so he turned down the chance rather than never getting one !

After a stint in France/Spain (General Direction) he has found his way to Plymouth Albion. Fair play to him, delighted for him, lovely guy.
