Who do ye reckon are the contenders to win Div. 2, to go down from Div. 2 and win Div. 3 ?

Very hard to call but would imagine Mallow are strongish favourites for Div 2. Behind them Kinsale, Killarney, Castleisland, Ennis, Youghal will all be fighting it out. As we saw from last season there's nothing in it.

Div 3 a complete lottery, Abbeyfeale would be my tip to win it. Ballincollig, Waterford City and Charleville could do well if they've gotten their acts together. Scarriff up in a heap after their relegation, and Kilrush will struggle to field a team from what I hear so not good for Clare rugby.

I see that Abbeyfeale put up a big scoreline on both Killarney and Scariff in the past few weeks but couldnt field a team against pres in a friendly so its hard to call with them, think Charleville have been hit with emigration a bit but still have a large squad and a new coach, they play Fermoy this week which should tell abit about both sides,City have lost a few lads but have a very large squad,a new coach and seem to be producing some good results so far, they beat Ballincollig,Dungarvan and Carrick in the past few weeks,I think Dungarvan will struggle in Div 2

  16. #4693
Fermoy are being coached by Clare Rigney this year, she was over Dolphin J2's last year that had a clean sweep at J2. By all accounts, she has been getting a good response at training so it wouldn't surprise me to see them there or thereabouts in Div.3. They always have a big pack and have a good out-half so they'll be competitive.

Abbeyfeale are now out of the football championship so should not have trouble fielding a team for the rest of the season

Thats a first! Whats her background? good to see....I have seen a woman refereeing a few junior games in Dublin and she did a fine job, and was getting ZERO guff from the players which is unusual!!!

Was talking to a lad from Crosshaven today who said they are crippled with injuries on top of struggling numbers and was just wondering have many teams much injuries as it seems early for that excuse to be out there. Also any more transfers

Best to wait for the legal submissions from each side before making the call.

Was that a joke? Hopefully not because it ain't a single bit funny, you'd be best keeping your comments constructive or if you want to be negative then maybe towards your own team. But don't go throwing this legal submissions thing around there was reasons for both and very valid reasons at that so leave it out concentrate on the rugby and stop talking rubbish.

Crosshaven are my club, dotie. If you get upset if someone ballhops their own, you might like to calm down.

Crosshaven v Kilfeacle, crosshaven to win handy enough at home

New West v Richmond, very close game but richmond win

Old Christians v Clonmel, old Christians to win

Skibb v Galbally, skibb win in dogged affair

St. Marys v Kanturk, Mary's to win

Waterpark v Clan, should be too good for clan, park win

St Senans v Cobh, Senans should have too much firepower at home

Hard to look beyond Mallow to win the division, despite last seasons final match day loss and failure to get promoted. Their form in the Shield suggests they are still strong - any win over a strong Killarney team is worthwhile and Kinsale are useful also.
Castleisland have 8 Pat Fitz playing UBL with Munsters and young 9 Will Casey getting game time with Bruff in UBL, so the amount of matches they manage with Island will determine the season to a degree.
Have a sneaking fancy for Youghal to go up also - the club is a traditional strong Junior rugby club for generations and have generally been a Division 1 and a half club. Killarney and Kinsale also a chance. Ennis and Island would need an awful lot to go right this year.

Isola, I'm not sure where u get the info regarding Castleisland but both pat and willy have left to play senior and will not be playing this year so their availability will have no bearing on the season. Just out of interest have u seen Island play this season?

I think every club is hit with declining numbers. I do feel the standard of the junior league has dropped significently in recent years. Lots of clubs have difficulty fielding teams which just shows how bad it is. Losing one or two key players could have major implications for a junior team.

As well as that, a lot of the Crosshaven team hit the babies/job/mid-to-late'30s-no time for anything anymore wall together. It happens, but it does wreck squad depth.

I hate when that happens! It seems to happen all teams at some stage. I think you could say that it even happens in the early-to-mid 30s.
