Maradona was a mighty cheat. As was Grobelaaar...... Actually, those of an older vintage, hadn't he some dealings in scandal of a race nature? (I could be completely wrong on this)

You learn something every day! I always thought (probably incorrectly) that Roma had a Jewish following and he was inciting them.

The only race thing I can remember involving Grobelaar was during the FA cup final with Everton where Liverpool won the league and cup double. Think it was '85. Anyhow Grobs made a really acrobatic save, top drawer, he was probably at his peak then. Anyhow the match commentator made some quip that he probably learnt to jump like that in the jungle or words to that effect. Caused quite a stir at the time if I recall it right.

I can't remember any other race scandal involving Bruce

save is at 4:23 in the video below but I think they cut away in the replay just before the infamous comment.

again, as usual, context is everything. he did MANDATORY national service, (your comment does potentially make it sound like he was chomping at the bit to be let loose to kill blacks)

I always think it's unfair on Big Ron to label him a racist. Sure he's said some stupid things and for all i know he has KKK pyjamas but his actions in playing black footballers like Batson, Regis and Cunnigham and Moses was groundbreaking and probably did more in the long run for black players in England than anyone else.

Also, re Grobelaar he played for Zimbabwe post independence and also coached them I think. Again, I have no idea what his personal prejudices are but he certainly played and coached black players.

Yup,common knowledge. But what Mr Delaney is cocking up on is that even less folks will watch them over the next(and last) 2 years of Trap's(Denis O Brien's) contract.

I don't quite get this. Since Denis O'B is paying him, surely he is the one up for the pay off? And isn't Denis the Chief Senior Editor of the Indo now?

Correct, totally skint, cock up after cock up. Overstating the appetite for people to blindly spend mad money on premium seats and 10 year seats in the Aviva Stadium was just one, then continuing to pay John Delaney a ludicrous salary.

If IRFU aren't careful, they'll be left carrying the FAI can at the Aviva.

Given that there sre still plenty of tickets available for the AI's I wouldn't be too sure of the IRFU's ability to carry the can neither.

But does anyone care when neither the players nor the management seem to? Mr. Trappatoni is on a winner - his own bank balance, everything else has been let go to pot.

Watched some of that humiliation at LR and aside from the difference in footballing skills, the physical and obvious fitness difference was frightening. The Germans were way bigger, quicker and fitter in all aspects. At least in the past we matched (& sometimes dominated) teams physically. Contrast also the way that the Germans wanted the ball while we shied away from tackling; the backing off by Irish players was all too visible even for the 6th goal.

Some credit though for the subs who managed a goal when the game was all over. At least there are a few who seem to care about the jersey. Sad though..........

Hope Ireland get hammered. We disgraced ourselves in Poland, and deserve nothing less.

Looking at the salries of Trap, Tardelli and Delaney, one can't help but reflect on the Croke Park Agreement, and Enda's refusal to take his own snout out of the trough. Ireland is a mess, run by idiots.
