Thread: Parking for TP

  1. #1

Whilst I agree with reyaining TP as the HQ for Munster games, what I don't understand is how planning permission was given without the provision of adequate parking facilities.

Parking was never easy with the "OLD" TP and yet with the capacity practically doubled (increased by the complete population of many a town ?),there was no extra parking catered for.

I would suggest that this lack of parking facilities accounted for most of the traffic problems.

Cannot MB appraoch local commercial companies to make available some parking faclities - I'm sure nobody would mind paying some fee if parking facilities were improved

The way in which the place was set-up yesterday would turn people off coming up again from Cork. They will feel the backlash, and then they will fix it.

Parking is hardly the problem, access to and from the grounds is surely the problem. Some of this will be resolved with the opening of the tunnel. I think a traffic management plan is required, this should involve a P&R system and take into account close to 26,000 pedestrians walking into the city immediately after the game.

It has already been confirmed that there will be a shuttle bus service from Tesco at Coonagh in due course.

Saturday was a traffic nightmare but MB have taken the issue in consideration by providing the shuttle bus service.

The one to town is already up and running but I am not sure when the Park and Ride from Coonagh will begin.
"This was the performance Ireland had been threatening all championship but had only managed to produce in fits and starts. Defeats at the hands of France and Wales had put paid to their title aspirations, never mind a Grand Slam, but yesterday’s emphatic 24-8 win shows that this is a team moving in the right direction."

I think the lack of traffic management was the problem. Not a Garda to be seen at any junction/roundabout so you get every man for himself.

To be honest it wasnt the traffic around TP, it was around the entry points into the city that was the problem.

Quite right, Limerick traffic on Friday's from 4pm is normally brutal anyway, certainly didn't help with 24,000 extra people trying to make their way to TP. Corpo's idea of traffic managment being switch the junction lights to flashing without a Guard to seen not the best idea. THat said their were Guards on the Athlulkard?St. mary's junction after the match.

i find it hard to believe that tesco would allow that over weekends at times when they are expectinig to be busy with shoppers, for a game at 8pm the car park would start filling up from 5-6pm......

Tesco in Coonagh full Lawrence? They fupping wish. They didn't even open most of the units down there as there was no one to fill them due to the ridicilous no of shopping centres in Limerick. I had assumed the massive LIT car park would be used but did someone say this wasn't open Friday night?

    i ilike the quote sewa,

it was funny listening to conor o shea on the rte review last night, i normally have a lot of respect for the guy but he was talking about the best center in the world being back in form and that the have a relastic chance of winnning the tournament this year......

they have a chance like everyone else, but at least wait and see what happens in the group first, yesterday could have been a lot different for them (as friday could have been for us)

based on the weekends performances Sale, stade and Glaws look like they should favourites, but you dont win the HCUP on one game and wasps will have a lot to say about the dubs this year

4 top teams and 2 reasonably priced long shots playing today so we will have a better idea after today.

Ya it was also closed for the glasgow game ,when i tried getting in there i was stopped and told it was only being used for corporate and hospitality parking . Which is sad considering the amount of cars lit can facilitate !!

It cant handle the students there monday to friday.

Seriously though it should be used on matchdays. Corporate and hospitality can all fit on the hill. The rest could deal with alot of the abandoned cars in thomondgate

Take a leaf out of Thurles book on Munster championship days. 48K people in and out of a town much smaller than Limerick with reasonable efficiency. The GAA clubs and anyone else interested open grounds and fields around the town and charge a fiver to park, no bother.

Just got a parking ticket in the post from last Saturday's match V Treviso timed at 21:55 hours. Always park on the Northern Ring Road pointing towards Ivan's for a quick getaway after the match. Never got a ticket before and parked there often, is this a new departure in the Garda's revenue generation for the State?

Anyhows for those of you who do park there but have got away with it might be worth keeping this in mind.

For DT perhaps not new but have been parking there for ages and know for a fact Garda turned a blind eye. Therefore thought it may be of use to others on here to know that there seems to be a change of heart and may save them the €40 it will cost me. Sometimes you should think of others up there in your ivory tower.

That road - Brookville Avenue - is double yellow from the roundabout at Moylish down as far as the B&B on the LHS, park below the B&B and you're fine. I have often seen cops giving out tickets there, usually at Heineken games rather that Magners ones. There are loads of places to park, Woodies for one, that you won't get ticketed.

I got a ticket too it seems. I was parked between the "LIT" Roundabout and Caherdavin. The first 150 yards or so of that road has double yellow lines on it.
I have always parked there, sometimes further down the road where there are no yellow lines and sometimes closer to the roundabout where there are. I have never got a ticket before, so it is a new departure.

The trouble is, I parked there again last Saturday.

We stayed over this time but for the Northampton game (i think), we were told by one of residents not to park on the road beside TP as new parking regulations had come into force and he suggested moving the car to the front of his house-very nice of him. There were a couple of electronic signs up with warnings that parking regulations would be enforced. Having said that, when we came out after the game, there were cars parked all the way up Parteen road and none of them seemed to have tickets/clamped.

They don't issue a parking ticket there and then. Have seen them writing down the reg numbers and then the fine is sent directly out.

Thought Brookville Ave was the road inside it if you follow. Either way will pay a bit more heed in future, with a bit of luck they were in watching the match on Saturday Piquet.

Yeah, I picked up two parking tickets last year. No yellow lines or anything, but I had the put two wheels on the footpath and they did me for that. I park down by Caherdavin church now.

Dude, from start of the season notices have been issued in all of the matchday info by Munster, Thomond Park, MRSC...Advising people not to park in the areas around the stadium as Gardai, Towtrucks etc would be in force. Just because you got away with it all along, does not make it correct to continue to do so. It happened me in Cork some years ago, car got towed outside Musgrave park. I was peeved, but, it was totally my own fault. Guess what I don't do anymore.

Were in the habit of parking on the Parteen Rd., usually with two wheels on the grass verge beyond Watchhouse X junction. On Saturday gone we were lucky enough that a Garda was in the area on our arrival and he let us and others know that he had instructions to cause tickets to issue to all cars parked along that grass verge specifically.

He also said that if we went a little further out the road we'd be ok, even though we'd still technically be committing an offence by parking with two wheels on a footpath. So, if you were parked more that an hour before the game and were on the grass verge beyond Watchhouse X on the Parteen Rd. I'm afraid there's a €40 fine heading your way.

Some of the road while not having double yellow lines have a continuous white line in the centre, has the same meaning when it comes to parking. I think some of the road will have a broken white line and no yellow lines but not sure.
