Calling into Shannon at the weekend it seems, probably to thank the airport for all the duty free that the troops buy on the way to Iraq.

Expect increased security at Shannon Airport this weekend as US
president George W. Bush is expected to make a stopover at the airport
    over the weekend.

Bush will be returning from a NATO conference when he is due to land at Shannon.

According to the Irish Independent, the Defence Forces have been told to be on full alert at the airport for this stopover.

Could he not pick a weekend where there wouldn't be a Heineken Cup 1/4 Final on and the mass exodus through Shannon that it entails.

Why cant the langer stop somewhere in The US Territory of England ?

Nope. There is extra security in Shannon. Guards were taking names and car registrations in the public viewing area on Monday.

I expect there will be more in the papers tomorrow!!

There was also a C17 transport plane at Shannon on Monday. No coincidence.

In May 2005, whenit was supposed to make a similar stopover, Air Force One bypassed Shannon. This isdespite the army, guards and secret service being all over the shop for several days.A handy €500k wasted on security for that clown.

The plan is that he will just refuel at Shannon on the way to and/or back from Bucharest. Romania and Bulgaria are being inducted in NATO this weekend.

The massive security operation put in to
operation at the expense of the taxpayer was all for nowt today as Air
Force One, the aircraft carrying US president George W. Bush, overflew
    Shannon airport today.

It was scheduled that the US president would be landing at the Clare
airport for a refuelling stop, but instead his flight continued on to
    the United states.

Two support aircraft, which were travelling with the president’s jet, did however stop to refuel.

150 Gardai were posted to Shannon for the landing.
