Unlike some referees John Lacey is always approachable and willing to explain his decisions which makes it easier for players and coaches. Hopefully he rises to the highest level of the game because really good referees are too scarce.

Good luck to Clancy in the Basque derby.
Berdos and Poite always seem to get the bigger games over here. I hope Jeromé Garces gets a few of the bigger games at the expense of the other 2 sooner rather than later. I remember him having good games in our home game to Treviso, when Bath played Ulster at the Rec, and in the Top 14 Toulon Clermont semi final. Twice the ref blindfolded that the other 2 are put together.
John Lacey will ref the France v Samoa match next month. First full international match. Best of luck John.

Delighted for him. He's well on the way to 6 Nations by 2014 and RWC in 2015 I think. Impressed by what I've seen of him so far

From the examiner
Joe Schmidt could barely hide his frustration at Limerick referee John Lacey after Leinster crashed to defeat at defending league champions Ospreys.Schmidt was particularly disappointed with the performance of Lacey at the scrums where Leinster, who appeared to have the upper hand, were thwarted time and again by the Munster official’s whistle.
Schmidt said: "We are incredibly frustrated. We thought we had the dominant scrum but the referee didn’t see it that way. It reached the stage where even when we were going forward three or more yards, the penalty went the other way."
Sure he's a Tipp man![]()
