Just saw Zodiac this evening. David Fincher's new tour de force about the Zodiac killings in San Fran in the late 60's. Excellent cast with Robert Downey Jnr impeccably cast as a driven man unable to control his vices. Jake Gyllenhal and Mark Ruffalo put in very good perfromances. There's little or no slick camera work or computer generated sequences that would be de rigeur for Fincher but the story is so engrossing and well directed that you don;t miss them. Soundtrack is top notch as well.

Well worth checking out.

I saw The Lives of Others at the weekend, and would strongly recommend the movie if you can put up with subtitles. I had planned to see Spiderman 3, but www.rottentomatoes.com gave it just a 61% rating, the other movie 95%.

Don't know if it's going to be shown outside of Dublin, but would recommend Half Nelson if it makes its way outside the Pale. Oscar-worthy performance from Ryan Gosling and some kids. Sad, interesting, beautifully shot, not maudlin or sentimental - a bit slow, but none the worse for that. And an excellent Broken Social Scene soundtrack.

Pirates 3. Alot like Pirates 2 but longer. Its almost 3 hours long.
some funny bits, but yet again sets it up for more sequels.

Pirates 3 is still an enjoyable film though. Worth watching, some great scenes in it. storyline is a bit confusing at times.

recent movies:

Spiderman 3 - possibly one of the worst big budget movies of all time

Blades of Glory - very funny if you are a will ferrell fan

28 Weeks later - felt genuinely tense during and after this movie, is as good as the original.

Pirates 3 - yawn, not as bad as spidermuck but very very long and plot is non existant. Depp makes a good effort to carry the movie but little else to recommend about it.

theres going to be a pirates 4!

its hard enough to get  a good sequel to a movie, you would think after clooney as batman people would have realised movies should never go past 2.

upfront - i saw that batman film the other night - was in a jocker, thought it would be perfect to watch and ignore - its actually the most bizarrely s**t film i think i have ever seen! really terrible! first two were class - second two were terrible!i thought the new one was quite good though.

has anybody seen four rooms?

batman and robin was one of the worst movies of all time.  Even clooney said later that it was his worst ever film.... from someone in return of the killer tomatoes thats a pretty bad criticism.

its a pit too because clooney could have been an excellent batman/bruce wayne.  had they him instead of kilmer for the third and not had joel schumacker ballsing it up it could have turned out a lot different.

a couple of words must be said for burtons two installments - absolute quality, and in my opinion very underated in the broad arena - he is such a good film maker, i love the way he has this wierd feel to all his films. watched corpse bride recently, it is brilliant.

burtons were excellent alright.  very tight call as to which is better, batman or batman begins.  They are such different films its hard to compare.

begins is very true to the comic in many ways though.  Batman was more burtons interpretation of Batman rather than a direct copy from the source material

Jack Nicholson will be a hard act to follow as the Joker though

Better or worse than the first installed of F4? because that was shockingly bad.

It passed a rainy afternoon in Liverpool alright but was completely mad - like an episode of Sunset Beach but with fewer laughs.  That's enough Oceans now lads, thanks.
