A darts player has tested positive for drugs for the first time and been banned for eight weeks.
Robbie Green, nicknamed 'Kong', tested positive for marijuana after giving a sample at the UK Open in Bolton in June. He has been suspended for eight weeks and two days by the Darts Regulation Authority.
Darts only introduced drug-testing this year and Green's was only the eighth test of a darts player by anti-doping agency UK Sport.
Green, 32, from the Wirral, reached the quarter-finals at the UK Open, the best performance of his career. He has his nickname tattooed on the back of his neck.
Meanwhile, UK Sport are keen to increase the number of blood tests in order to help the battle against doping in sport.
UK Sport hosted a symposium of experts in London this week and will now look to see whether the increased cost of blood tests - which are better at monitoring the use of growth hormones and the blood-boosting agent EPO than urine tests - could be borne.
John Scott, director of drug-free sport at UK Sport, said: 'What was clear was that increasing the level of blood testing could add value to our testing programme, both as a method of detection and deterrence.
'Cost is a factor, but if it improves the overall quality of our testing programme then increasing the level of blood testing is something we can consider. At the end of the day, it shouldn't be a case of how many tests you do, but how effective they are.'</DIV>

How the blazes can a Darts Star have failed a dope test? They are all congenitally dopey.

It was a matter of time before these performance enhancing drugs found their way into darts, such a shame.

<DIV>In fairness, a sobriety test should be performed before a darts match. anybody caught sober should be banned from playing darts for 6 months.</DIV>

beta-blockers ... exact opposite of the asthama stuff Frankie got done for.

Beta blocker drugs are top of the banned list for any sport requiring any level of marksmanship. They slow the pulse, ans help you keep a steady hand under pressure.

Most asthma med's do the exact opposite.
