How would it have impacted todays Ireland teams? If anything it would have impacted the Ireland team of the time, who didn't beat the ABs. It was nearly 30 years ago...

It's definitely impacted the Munster team. Just watch the new DVD to see some clear examples.
To get a good background on the game get Alan English's "Stand Up and Fight".

Anyone remember whenLeinster beat the wallabies? Flash, the Queen and Cahill all recall it like it was yesterday.

What is said "forwards win matchs backs determine by how much" ? and leinster only scored 5 leicester 5 and Munster more than the other two put together.

I think it has had a great impact, first on Munster and by extension
on the other 3 provinces. Look at Wales which had no tradition of
rugby beyond the clubs, the new "provinces" have really struggled
and some have even gone to the wall. They are now busy building a
tradition whereas the idea of Shannon, Garryowen and Young
Munster allowing Cork players to have a go was already well in place
here smileys/wink.gif. (Alright Alright, ONLY KIDDING smileys/lol.gif )
But it's that tradition that has driven Munster because it has come
right through from the players - in many cases they got it directly
from their fathers - and anyone who grew up in Limerick knew
exactly what Thomond Park was all about - the silence for the kickers
and all that, you get told to shut the f**k up for the kickers when
you're a kid and now I tell my kids the same thing.
But the 78 game was only one of four or five stand out results for
munster against touring sides and some at musgrave inc' beating
Australia a few times
