Its a brilliant city! You'll freeze without lots of jackets. Fantastic advice wha! Lots of cheap absinthe to be brought home smileys/thumb-up.gif

Went to Prague for New Year a few years ago. It is bitterly cold but it's fantastic as the whole place is covered in snow and you can get hot wine almost anywhere. I'm definitely recommend it!!

as above, dress warm and drink plenty of hot wine. If you decide to walk to the castle from the main square bring along a hip flask or stop at any pubs you find as its steep enough in the cold.

Beer is top as well, drink the real budweisersmileys/thumb-up.gif

Worth a visit at least once. Excellent architecture, pubs, women! Still quite inexpensive, but you'll get ripped off in the city centre these days unless your careful. You have to travel outside the city for the 20 cent beer too.

Check out the Pivni Galerie (http://www.pivnigalerie.cz/)

It's a little bit out of the way, but well worth visiting at least once. It has a fantastic collection of Czech beers, very friendly owners & a tasting room where you can sit down and try out some of the drinks. Typical Prague prices too (i.e. very cheap).

Make sure you head down towards the end of your trip or you might find yourself in there every day!

First and only visit was in October 1994. Brilliant time, lovely people, good wholesome food and of course a beer or six for the price of a bar of chocolate at home. Accommodation was good too

Prague good. Prefer Krakow. Less touristy. Fewer Brit stag parties to be avoided. Fewer Yank/Aussie rucksacks to trip over.

Was there last year, first week in Dec. Freezing cold, but as long as you have the proper clothes with you, it isn't a problem. Lots of little Christmas stalls in the main square selling hot wine and pretzels. Go off the main streets to some local bars and you'll find the place really cheap and friendly. Stayed in nice hotel in the main street, looked like the same layout as O connell street in Dublin. Great by day, but by night every doorway leads to a strip club or brothel. Was with the wife, but if with the lads then might be able to give you some recommendations there. Walk across the bridge to the castle. Its a bit of a touristy thing, but some nice little restaurants and bars in the sidestreets at that side of the water.

I'd go again. Its a lovely place. Watched a HC match in an Irish pub while I was there for the weekend and the crack was great.
