What does this qualify us for?

~Cat~
22nd-May-2007, 09:06
I don't think (although OD will correct if I'm wrong) it qualifies us for anything, it's a competition for the non-test playing nations to get experience in the four-day format of the game.

Another wicket for Ireland 48/4.

And that's a third wicket for TJ, 53/5

Here (http://www.icc-cricket.com/icc/events/intercontinental/qanda.html)'s a link to some answers about the cup.

And another! Thinus Fourie takes his second wicket (on his first class debut). 55/6

Game won't last four days at this rate. smileys/cool.gif

NOw that was a good toss to win ( and a good insertion of the opposition)

Canada 92 all out. If I were an Irish batsman I'd make the most of the first innings. I mightn't get a chance to bat a second time.

Ireland 37 without loss after 12 overs. They've been taking it nice and easy, scoring 0,0,1,1,6,5,8,5,1,6,0,and4 respectively in the twelve overs

~Cat~
22nd-May-2007, 12:06
Seems like they're playing themselves into the longer format nicely. Wish I was there, apparently it's free entry into Grace Rd and if the weather there is as nice as here, then it would be a very pleasant afternoon.

2 runs in the first 4 overs, then waking up a bit, to put in into context...

Still, Ireland should be looking at around 200-250 for their first innings total...

Piquet
22nd-May-2007, 12:16
The openers are doing nicely, they appear to be waiting for the bad ball. They should aim to bat out the day, by which time Ireland should be well ahead.

~Cat~
22nd-May-2007, 12:27
50 for Bray. 66/0

Bitter As A Lemon
22nd-May-2007, 12:31
they should declare on 250, if they get to bat that long, and then go for the jugular.

Agreed...

135/0 - now the highest ever opening stand in this competition!

Jeremy Bray's century (off 112 balls, with 19 fours and a six).http://www.munsterfans.com//uploads/images/Cat/9Z6_smiley32.gif 147/0

I would even decalre now....if Ireland can score 147 without loss then the chances are Canada's batsmen are s**t, if they were all out for 100.

~Cat~
22nd-May-2007, 15:19
Bray out just short of his 150, Porterfield out for 54 and Gillespie out for 18. Openers made 202 though http://www.munsterfans.com//uploads/images/Cat/F4B_smiley32.gif

Stumps. Morgan (17) & O'Brien (13) to resume tomorrow on 250/3, lead is 158.

They should really declare now, try and get Canada out by tomorrow evening then have a full day to get 100 runs !

Why would they declare? Make sure they wont have to bat again and leave themselves more then enough time to bowl the Canadians out.

~Cat~

Declaration or otherwise looking to be fairly academic tbh - another wicket just fallen. 330/9

Morgan pilling them on for the last wicket though.

~Cat~

352 all out.

The lead is 260. I'd have liked another 30 or 40 runs on that for safety but if our bowlers are as effective as yesterday or even as effective as Canada's were with the second new ball, it should be Ireland's game.

~Cat~
23rd-May-2007, 11:28
DL-S takes the first. 7/1

TJ takes the second. 30/2

Should be Ireland's win now...

Well you'd hope so but I've been a Somerset supporter for too long to ever think a game is won until it is.

Anyway, another wicket. 42/3

Right, i've stopped listening to the commentary, who has taken the four wickets?

~Cat~

3 for Trent Johnston, 1 for Dave Langford-Smith

DL-S has hurt his back, may not be able to continue to bowl.

~Cat~

Wicket for McCallan 81/5

Tea

~Cat~
23rd-May-2007, 14:10
While I was doing some work, three more wickets fell (another 2 for McCallan and one for Kevin O'Brien). 140/8

And another for McCallan. 141/9 If this was a prize fight, the ref would have stopped it now!

~Cat~
23rd-May-2007, 14:17
And that's the fivefer for McCallan. All out 141. Ireland retain the cup, winning by an innings and 115 runs. Well done.
