Congratulations on your 2nd season in the HEC

Hopefully a 3rd seed which will mean a better group than last year

as Benetton Treviso, Castres Olympique, Montpellier, Racing Métro 92, Exeter Chiefs & 2nd Italian team will all be ranked below you

But is it not if union quotas are filled the last place goes to the best non-ranked qualifier?

This is great news!! Hopefully it will allow their momentum to continue- they put in some great performances this year, and the experience will stand to them next year.

Dermot- is this the case even if both Irish teams loose in the semi-finals? Take it it's because all 4 semi-finalists in the Amlin are french, and there are no English teams left in the HEC. I'm sure it's very simple- but I'm afraid my brain is completely fried at this stage.

TT As 4 French teams are in the SF of the Amlin they get a 7th place in the HEC next year if BOPB, SF or Brive win they are in the HC next year. If Toulon win the 7th placed team in the Top 14 gets a place in the HEC

The 24th place in the HEC goes to the the country that gets the furthest in the HEC No Welsh, No English 2 Irish 1 Scottish (no 3rd team) France CA (Already 7 teams, 8 not allowed) ergo CONNACHT qualify

The 24th place goes to the next highest ranked side in Europe if France or England already have 7 in the tournament. France will have 7 in the tournament guaranteed. If Clermont win the HEC, the next highest team will probably be Bath (England will only have 6 sides involved at that point).

"
if either country wins both the Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup the second additional spot will pass on to the club with the highest ERC European Ranking who has not already qualified from any of the other five nations."
