Ireland full-back to join Stormers?

Ireland are hoping to get some game time for injured full-
back Rob Kearney with the Stormers in Super Rugby.

Kearney, who has been sidelined by a serious knee injury
suffered playing for Ireland against New Zealand and
needs game time as Ireland begin preparation for the
World Cup.

"We're looking at the South African option for Rob and
we've made contact with the Stormers there," Ireland
manager Paul McNaughton told the Independent.

"We're waiting for sign-off from our medics in the next few
days to see what weeks he can start playing. He's been
keeping as fit as he can without playing matches, gym fit,
but he'll obviously need some preparation before he plays
down there."

Ireland have also added an extra game, against Connacht,
to their build up schedule in August to facilitate the return
other players who are struggling with long-term lay-offs
including Stephen Ferris, Andrew Trimble, Paddy Wallace
and Geordan Murphy.

He's going to look like a god playing full back in South Africa.

Great idea btw. Pity he was injured this season, would have been very interesting to see what Smidth could have done with him.

Chris Cusiter is playing for the Southern Districts in Sydney's Shute Shield in Australia to
get his fitness up to speed, wouldn't be a bad idea for Tomas.

there's going to be a shed load of guys in our squad with feck
all serious game time in the past 12 months. That cannot be
good.

In the Sindo today it said that TOL will be getting an injection
in his back the week after next. That doesn't sound too good...

All Black Ali Williams played 4 matches for Nottingham this season to get his fitness up for the Super15, and getting beaten by Munster A of course. smileys/wink.gif

Great oppertunity for Kearney if true, the Stormers are one of the top 3 sides in Super15 and he would be surrounded with plenty of quality players. TOL could do with the gametime aswell, he must be 3rd or 4th choice scrumhalf at this stage (and he can bring Jacques Fourie back with him smileys/lol.gif)

Should stick around for some WP games aswell maybe, Super 15 will be done in mid June. He'll be fit after spending a summer running on dust thats for sure.

Sorry, do you say thatas if it is a bad thing? If he is fit and in form (I
doubt he will be either) he is potentially our best player.

I doubt he will be either which makes the decision to invest
in
him crazy. He hasn't been in form for almost two years
now. A
couple of months in SA won't help.
