I have the Scots at +17 on Betdash, if that's worth anything. Although I also have England to win by between 20 and 30 points.

this 6 nations has been a bit of a wash .. all the teams are pretty much building for the RWC, england are just further along in that process than any of the others.

France and Scotland have serious defensive issues to sort out, Italy are finally finding the right personnell, while wales & Ireland are a mess trying to sort out new tactics

That England team SHOULD be beatable. They are no
great shakes. Nagging issue, is that neither were France or
Wales. Problem is we do not have the pack, or halfbacks
to deliver it.

Our backrow are quite simply not going to be able to come
anywhere close to putting in the sort of destructive
defensive effort the Scots put in. They're all front foot
merchants - yet our front five are unlikely to deliver that
front foot. Our front row is - well; average at Best (no pun
intended). Our 2nd row is unbalanced; always has been.

The backline is copping a lot of flak - but down here we
should know better than most that packs win games.

We are back to the bad old days of needing our oppo to
have a bad day at the office.

smileys/sad.gif

Our best bet is to try to run the b*****ds ragged - but can
we break free from the conservative shackles which saw us
kick so damn much ball against Wales?

I really doubt it. God I hope I'm wrong. England cruising
to a Slam in Dublin would be more than I could bear I fear.

Great post. I'd worry about our scrum. I'd also worry
about our bench usage because England appreciate that
fresh legs do damage, their bench has some seasoned
old heads in there without doubt, but they were all
effective today. Most important for me though if we do
decide to try expansive (scotland croker comes to mind
smileys/cry.gif ) is the selection of scrum half.

13th-March-2011, 19:06
To be fair, saw plenty of evidence today and previously, that
putting pressure on Foden, Cueto and Ashton when you kick
to them can lead to mistakes and turnovers. The problem is
our kicks are so aimless it won't happen.

Agree entirely. Fitz just kept returning ball to Hook and
byrne who were drinking it all in. They knew if they
kicked deep that we'd do the same, only poorer. They
controlled field position by giving the Fitz ball all day
long. Think the clatter ROG took in the first half was a
factor in his play too. We all know what he's like, he was
probably looking at 3 Kaplans when he came over to ask
him was he ok? Fearless man, and tough as steel pound

i thought paterson had a great game, and being scottish, showed superb commitment and skill unlike the aussie who came on to throw the game for them (parks).

Case in point: Paterson chases down ben foden. Text book tackle around the knees pulls him into touch despite the touchdown.

previous day: Tommy bowe chases down mike philips, goes in too high to attempt to make a "normal" tackle, gets smashed in the face with atextbook faceplant, and lands on his ass.

Got to say this game was another helped to a decision by
refereeing by assumption of who is better. Scotland had
the ball 10m from the England line, Easter, at the side of
the ruck, kicks that ball away, England break away and
nothing from the ref. Should have been a penalty and YC.
The same move ends with a Scottish player done on a less
clear cut penalty and given a YC as well, England took the
lead and took advantage of the extra man given them by
Poite. Best example you can have of how it really wouldn't
have happened the other way around, because the offence,
near the line etc did and wasn't even given.

Either side of the YC England never looked like pulling
away.

We don't even know if McFadden is any use at centre. He's supposed to really be a centre but his handling skills look s**te.
