Without question our Heineken Cup starting front row should be

Du Preez Varley/Flannery Buckley

Horan and Hayes are sadly gone passed it (they owe us nothing and will make great replacements).

Unless foggy's throwing improves quickly he has not a hope of making it as a hooker.

Yeah, Borlase has been straight as an arrow in all the games he's played for Munster so far. To be fair on Mushy, whatever he has done over the summer, it certainly has improved his scrummaging ability somewhat.

Big improvement in Buckley in the summer tour and so far this season.

I've been impressed with the DuPreez/Varley/Buckley front row so far this year, would stick with that unless Fla gets some gametime under his belt which doesn't look likely.

In my opinion Buckleys getting better but when he played over the summer he still present Ireland with good ball vs ABs and then average againstAus a so so front row.Bring Buckley on to finsh games off IMHO.

Buckely has def improved and when his played this season the scrum has looked very solid and he does offer a lot more than other front rows in the loose.

Agree, he has been impressive any time I've seen him, we should give him decent game time this year.

If he wasn't injured that's what he'd be getting I'm sure.

Chrizzie, Borlase hasnt played for us yet so your HC final FR selectionis a little premature.

We have to start with Buckley - the Bull looked shot against the Osprey's and Big Pete won't be any use to team until December.

Varley to start, Fla would be some impact sub.

How anyone can put Horan ahead of Du Preez is beyond me.

I'm still not convinced Du Preez is as good as some think. He's
a solid scrummager but not great in the loose. As for Horan,
he doesn't carry the ball half as much as before but its early
season for him yet. IF he can get back to his old self it'll be an
interesting battle for the loosehead position.

Not forgetting Dave Ryan and Darragh Hurley either. At least
one of them will get gametime this season.

Du Preez, Varley, Buckley - Horan and Fla after 60 as replacements, and theBull at 70 mins. When/if Borlase comes good, let himself and Mushy battle it out for the number 3 berth. I also still think Hurley is the best athlete and has the most power of all our LH's, just a shame injury has hampered his development. In 2-3 years would love to see Ryan and Hurley doing battle for the LH berth and Buckley and maybe Hagan if we steal him from the Westies battling it out on the other side. Longer term Cronin is the answer at Hooker.

He'll arrive when he's finished in the ITM Cup. His team being 2nd is actually not a good thing for us as that means they'll have to play playoffs.

Semies are 29/30 October and final is 5 November. So could well be that he arrives half November.

All Blacks scrum coach works magic with Munster
James Mortimer - (1/10/2010) - 5 Comments
The famed scrum doctor, Mike Cron, recently spent time
with coaches from all round Munster in a clinic run by the
provinces Domestic Game Department.

Cron, who is the All Blacks scrum guru and has been a New
Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) resource coach since 2004,
spent last week working with Munster Rugby scrum coach
counterpart Paul McCarthy.

This culminated on Sunday with a visit to the Cork Institute
of Technology, where over forty coaches from all around
Munster attended a Scrum Clinic as reported by
munsterrugby.ie

Two sessions were run, with players from the South
Munster Regional Development Squad and the under-18
teams.

Cron and McCarthy worked on scrummaging techniques
and body position.

It continued a trend of Cron working to share his
knowledge of sharing the ‘dark arts’ of the scrum and the
front row, with the clinic coordinated by Munster Domestic
Game Manager Ultan O Callaghan and Munster Coach
Development Officer Keith Murphy.
