Toulouse players Trevor Brennan and Gareth Thomas will both face
misconduct charges arising from last Sunday's Heineken Cup clash
against Ulster.
</font>
Brennan faces a ERC charge of assaulting Ulster
supporter Patrick Bamford after leaving the playing area at the Stade
Ernest Wallon.
</font>
Thomas is alleged to have engaged in "aggressive exchanges with spectators".
</font>
The Welsh international's hopes of playing in this year's Six Nations are threatened by any potential ban.
<!- E SF ->
</font>
The charge levelled against Thomas says that he
"aggressively attempted to enter one of the seating areas" and/or "made
an offensive hand gesture towards spectators".
</font>
Brennan claimed he was provoked by chants about his mother but this has been "categorically" denied by Ulster supporter Bamford.
</font>
Former Ireland World Cup forward Brennan and ex-Wales
captain Thomas must now attend disciplinary hearings following an
initial investigation by European Rugby Cup disciplinary officer Roger
O'Connor. </font>
The ERC have also announced further investigation into
the behaviour of a section of Ulster supporters, and Toulouse's alleged
failure to control their players with regard to the incident.
</font>
Disciplinary hearings for Brennan and Thomas will be convened as soon as practicable.
</font>
Toulouse mounted a vigorous defence of Brennan but Ulster claimed Brennan had tarnished rugby with his actions.
</font>
Brennan appeared to punch Bamford several times leaving the 25-year-old accountant with a suspected fractured skull.

<TR>
<TD =article>Pierre was cited by Matt Bayliss for alleged dangerous play in a ruck (contravention of Law 10.4 (i)).
At the hearing todayin ERC HQ in Dublin, the Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Professor Lorne Crerar, amended the citing so that it also included alleged striking with the knee - contravention of Law 10.4 (a).
The independent Disciplinary Committee, that included Aurwell Morgan (Wales) and Peter Brown (Scotland), found that the player had committed an act of foul play and upheld the citing complaint. However, the Disciplinary Committee found that the act of foul play would not have warranted a red card and imposed no suspension on the player.
Don't think Alfie and Trevor have too much to fear. Looks like the ERC are trying to be as nice as possible to the French. I wonder why?smileys/wink.gif</TD></TR></T></TABLE>

@@@@SPAN id=intelliTXT>Sale Sharks full-back and Biarritz lock David Couzinet have each been suspended for six weeks by the ERC disiplinary committee after being cited from the last round of Pool matches in January.
Larrechea, who had been cited for 'head-charging', eye-gouging and spitting, was found guilty only of the alleged gouging, with an ERC statement saying that the disciplinary committee 'upheld the citing finding that there was contact with the eye / eye area but did not find that the player had spat or led with his head.'
Larrechea has been suspended for six weeks, back-dated to January 21 when Sale Sharks suspended him. He will be free to play again on March 7.
Couzinet was found guilty of stamping on an opponent during Biarritz's match with Northampton Saints on January 20, and was suspended for six weeks. He will be free to play again on March 23. @@@@/SPAN>

But only until 15 March - and the Top 14 doesn't resume until the 23rd! smileys/lol.gif
Toulouse : La FFR suspend Brennan

Trevor Brennan's ERC disciplinary hearing is due to resume today after being adjourned earlier this month.
The ex-Ireland lock is facing a lengthy suspension if found guilty of assaulting an Ulster fan during Toulouse's Heineken Cup game against the Irish province in January.
Brennan allegedly jumped into the crowd and punched the supporter after being verbally taunted while warming up along the sidelines.

@@@@SPAN ="storydate">26/02/2007@@@@/SPAN>
Former Ireland lock Trevor Brennan will appear before an independent disciplinary committee on March 16 after his appeal to adjourn the hearing for his misconduct charge was dismissed today.
Brennan is alleged to have entered a seating area during Toulouse's 28-13 Heineken Cup victory over Ulster last month and punched a supporter, who has since begun criminal and civil proceedings.
Representatives of the Toulouse forward requested an adjournment of the hearing on the grounds the outcome could prejudice the criminal proceedings in France and affect Brennan's right to silence.
But today's decision to proceed with the final hearing ensures the 33-year-old, who is facing a lengthy ban, will discover next month if his playing career has been ended prematurely.
Before the incident took place, he had indicated his decision to retire at the end of the current season.
@@@@SPAN id=rugby_story2>The International Rugby Board requested Toulouse take the measure as it was "in the interests of the game".
Brennan is alleged to have struck Patrick Bamford, leaving the 25-year-old accountant requiring medical treatment at the ground and on his return home to London.
Brennan claimed he was provoked by derogatory chants during the game.
Bamford is also taking libel action against a number of news organisations which reported the incident.@@@@/SPAN>

A bit of Ulster Paranoia breaking out again here. I think that Trev should have been ordered to the Bastille by the FFR instead of one of their disciplinary hearings. He might win there if Dartagnan one of the Three Musketeers showed up.smileys/rolleyes.gif
