Good thinking there Bosco, might try and send a few emails and see if I
can swing something similar! Can be quite cold there in October, was
very cold at night when I was there this year, might need a few good
hot water bottles for the camper-van

Can you get a "Match only package" where you dont have to pay for flights?
All things going well I'll be down in Australia then so I would just fly accross from there!

you can buy an Ireland pack where you get all 4 pool games
and the QF if we get there, and if we dont get there you get
refunded the price of the QF ticket. no ideas bout pricing yet,
but i would imagine the Ireland V Oz game will be expensive

How difficult would it be to get them? Would these tickets sell out within minutes of going on sale?
Also would they have a package where you can buy the cheaper seats at all 5 games and then a seperate package for those who want to buy the more expensive seats at all 5 games?
Bosco
29th-November-2009, 21:10
not sure, they did these for the RWC in france, but i couldn't
afford to buy the pack at the time, so didn't look into options
too much, but at the time there didn't seem too much of a
rush, was kicking myself later when i didn't manage to get a
ticket for the french game.
i would imagine there wont be a massive rush, its still a long
way to the RWC and people cant guarantee being able to
afford to go.

By Tracy Withers
March 30 (Bloomberg) -- Tickets to the preliminary games of
the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand will go on sale globally
on April 27, organizers said today.
About 750,000 tickets will be available for people who wish
to see every preliminary game at a particular venue, or watch
every pool game played by an individual team, Rugby New Zealand
2011 Ltd. said in an e-mailed statement. Individual tickets will
go on sale in August and ballots for tickets to the semi-finals
and final will be run in November.
New Zealand expects about 85,000 international supporters
will visit to see the tournament, which begins Sept. 9 next year,
Prime Minister John Key said yesterday. Organizers expect to
sell about 1.2 million tickets in New Zealand, where the
population is 4.4 million, and have made a priority offer to
local players and club members.
“To New Zealanders we say ‘you gotta be there’ for this to
be a truly memorable event,” RNZ 2011 Chief Executive Officer
Martin Sneddon said.
The 40 preliminary games will be played in 13 cities,
which gives New Zealanders more chance to attend, he said. Ticket
prices at smaller grounds and for matches not involving high
profile teams like New Zealand’s All Blacks, Australia or South
Africa have been kept as low as possible, he said.
People who apply to attend preliminary games can also seek
tickets to the quarterfinals, and will go into the ballot for
the semi-finals and final.
Already about 135,000 travel and hospitality packages have
been sold, more than the total sold for the 2003 World Cup in
Australia, Sneddon told Television New Zealand on March 28.

going to book them when there out. Was looking into
campervans, seem fairly expensive. have a friend teaching
full time down there and he said it would be cheaper to hop
around on buses and stay in hostels.
Bosco
20th-April-2010, 18:10
I would recommend having your own transport over there and
not bus it, the buses i got seemed to take ages.
if you are going to go the hostel route i would recommend
getting a car too. either hire one or get your friend to pick you
up a cheap second hand one from the backpackers markets
out there.
there is another thread on the RWC that has excellent info on
campervans.

Reminder!
April 26 (AFP) -- More than 50,000 people have pre-
registered ahead of the launch Tuesday of the first phase of
ticket sales for next year's Rugby World Cup in New Zealand,
organisers said.
The figure includes 20,000 overseas fans from 100
different countries, although most are from major rugby playing
nations such as Britain, Australia, and Ireland, as well as the
United States and Canada.
"This is a fantastic response and shows how popular Rugby
World Cup has become around the world," said Martin Snedden,
the chief executive of tournament organiser, Rugby New Zealand
2011 (RNZ 2011).
Strong ticket sales are essential to avoid a huge loss for
RNZ 2011 -- a joint venture between the New Zealand Rugby Union
and the government -- which bears all the costs of the
tournament but will only get income from ticket sales.
Revenue from television rights and sponsorship are used by
the International Rugby Board to develop the game worldwide.

four pool matches played by a single team or all pool matches

RICES: AFFORDABILITY FOR A POPULAR EVENT
The overall success of the event depends largely on a policy of
reasonable pricing which acknowledges the prestigious nature of the
event while keeping it affordable. At the outset the price policy is
designed around two factors: classifying pool matches into price
levels based on appeal, and seating in different categories.
Pool matches are ranked into five levels based on the teams involved
in the games. Prices are then determined according to the position of
the seat in the ground. Five seat categories based on the view and
closeness to the pitch have been defined.
A large range of prices is available to suit all budgets.
The cheapest tickets will be €10 to encourage a broad range of
people to attend the stadiums and experience Rugby World Cup.
·10% of tickets (250,000 seats) will be €15 or less
·45% of tickets (1.2 million seats) will be at equivalent prices for top
French club matches
·30% of tickets for the knockout stages will be at equivalent prices
for Six Nations matches
·25 % of pool matches will be below the attractive price of €20
·Prices for the quarter finals and the opening ceremony will start at
€49
·Nearly 15,000 seats for the final will be sold for less than €100
·Half the seats for the third place play-off (25,000 in the Parc des
Princes) will be on offer at €15

Rugby World Cup losses could top €21m
Despite strong interest in next year’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, tournament boss Martin Snedden is still predicting a sizeable loss of over €21million.
The tournament’s organisers — a joint venture between the New Zealand Rugby Union and the government — originally estimated a loss of NZ $30million (€16.2m) but when expectations around ticket sales were downgraded it increased by a further NZ $9.3m (€5m) as the only income RNZ 2011 receives is from the sale of tickets.
Now with 85,000 match tickets sold as part of official travel packages and 50,000 fans from more than 100 countries pre-registering for venue and team pool packs, which went on global sale today, Snedden, RNZ 2011 chief executive, remains optimistic that the NZ $39.3m (€21.2m) figure will not blow out further.
“At the moment we are sitting at a projected loss of just over 39 million and I think we’re confident enough to stay there at the moment and certainly the events around the start of the ticket campaign have given us a bit of comfort there,” Snedden said, 500 days out from the start of rugby’s showpiece event.
“We will continue to evaluate the whole thing ... but we’re happy enough with where we sit at the moment.
“We know that selling 1.65 million tickets is going to be a huge challenge. But it’s really motivating when you start off the whole campaign and you get such an instant positive response.”
Fans in Wellington were able to pose with the Webb Ellis Cup today, a trophy New Zealand has not won since 1987, as the promotion for the start of phase one of the ticketing process swung into top gear.
The applications for venue and pool packs close on Friday, May 21st with individual match tickets expected to be on sale later this year. A ballot system will be used for tickets to the semi-finals and final, which will all be played at Auckland’s revamped Eden Park.
The tournament will kick off with New Zealand taking on Tonga at Eden Park on September 9th and Snedden said ensuring the ticketing programme went smoothly was a priority.
“Making sure the ticketing process goes well is a key factor for us. We’ve got to sell a bucket load of tickets. We’ve got to sell 1.65 million tickets,” he said.
“I’m not expecting to sell all of those in 2010. I would love to have the vast majority of them sold by late this year, early next year but I’m also resigned to the fact that I think we’re going to be selling tickets right through the whole process and during the tournament itself.”

<H1>Thousands move early for World Cup tickets</H1>
<DIV =newsCredits>(RUGBYWORLDCUP.COM) Tuesday 27 April 2010</DIV>
<DIV =newsCredits>Rugby World Cup 2011 organisers received a massive boost on day one of the global ticketing application phase as thousands of fans both in New Zealand and around the world moved quickly to secure Team and Venue Packs for the tournament. </DIV>
<DIV =newsCredits>To mark 500 days to go until the start of next year's Rugby showpiece, applications opened at 9am in New Zealand on 27 April and by the end of the first day there had been over 25,000 applications, equating to 90,000 tickets.
The Rugby community within New Zealand has also pre-ordered 14,500 packs and this total revenue, along with the opening day of global applications, has already exceeded the total ticket revenue of the Lions tour to New Zealand in 2005.
The application phase is open until 21 May and allows the global public to apply for packs for all teams and all venues.
"It's an encouraging start and is in line with what we expected after 50,000 fans pre-registered their interest in purchasing packs over the last month," said Martin Snedden, CEO for Tournament Organiser, Rugby New Zealand 2011 (RNZ 2011).
"This is a global event and the rest of the world is certainly waking up to the fact that a Rugby World Cup in a country so passionate about the Game will be a special time in this country.
"It's really important that Kiwis avoid being disappointed and take advantage of this phase of ticketing if they are going to secure the seats they want at this Tournament.
"As we have always said, RWC 2011 will be a fantastic celebration of Rugby and New Zealand. It won't be returning in a hurry so now is the time for Kiwi fans to get behind the Tournament. To really experience the excitement of this event, we say to fans you have to be there," added Snedden.
"Once again, Rugby's global family has underlined its extraordinary passion for the game ahead of this, the seventh Rugby World Cup," said Rugby World Cup Limited (RWCL) Chairman Bernard Lapasset.
"Those that have their tickets safely secured can now look forward to experiencing a Tournament that will celebrate Rugby at its best and showcase New Zealand's wonderful hospitality and heritage. It will be an event not to be missed."
To mark the significant milestone, RNZ also took the Webb Ellis Cup to the Wellington Railway Station, where 18,000 commuters pass through between the hours of 7am and 9am. The public were invited to have their photos taken with the Cup, which they could then download for free from www.flickr.com/rugbyworldcup.
"Today has been a special milestone for RNZ 2011 with just 500 days to go to kickoff so it was wonderful to see so many fans grabbing a moment with the Rugby World Cup, the Webb Ellis Cup, at Wellington Railway Station this morning," added Snedden.
Full ticket information is available at www.rugbyworldcup.com/tickets. Tickets will be sold in three phases, beginning with Venue and Team Pool Packs. Phase two in August/September involves individual ticket sales. Ballots will be held for tickets to the semi-finals and Final in the third phase near the end of 2010. </DIV>

I'd have thought it would make sense to find out for sure before submitting the applications. I wouldn't be so sure that casual punters will take up spare tickets, anyone from this neck of the woods who is going will have applied themselves.
Crazy system - why not just sell the things first come first served.

<h1>Rugby World Cup ticket sales down</h1>
<song>Rugby:</song>World
Cup ticket sales in New Zealand were approximately NZ$100 million
(€55m) below their final target but organisers remained confident rugby
fans would snap up the remaining tickets in the four months before the
tournament starts in September.
The Christchurch earthquake in
February had forced organisers to refund about €11 million from the
130,000 tickets sold for the seven matches that had been scheduled for
the city.
Christchurch ticket holders have priority for the
rescheduled matches and would receive notification on how they could
purchase those tickets on Friday, organisers said in a statement.
Prior
to the earthquake, organisers had sold a total of 919,000 tickets,
worth €105 million. They have budgeted for a total ticket revenue of
just under €150 million.
"Pre-Christchurch, ticket sales
were exactly where we expected them to be," Rugby New Zealand 2011 chief
executive Martin Snedden said in the statement today - the first day
tickets were delivered to fans.
"The transfer of
matches so close to kick-off is unprecedented for any major event and
has created significant additional challenges, but we remain confident
that we should be able to recoup the bulk of the refunded sales within
the next two months or so.
"Overall, we still remain
confident that, by tournament-end, we will achieve our sales target of
$268 million (€105m) and 1.35 million tickets."
Tournament
organisers are only allowed to keep revenue generated from ticket sales
and must underwrite the costs of hosting the tournament and pay a
licence fee to the International Rugby Board.
Organisers
had budgeted for an operating loss of about €22 million, which is to be
underwritten by the New Zealand government and New Zealand Rugby Union.
Snedden
said the final phase of ticket sales would begin on July 4th, when all
remaining tickets would be made available for purchase.
"Tickets
will remain on sale until they are gone and we urge fans to get in
quick as this really will represent the last opportunity to secure a
place ringside at rugby's biggest tournament," Snedden said.
"The
final sales phase is traditionally a strong sales period for major
events. As was the case in Australia in 2003 and France in 2007 we fully
expect that to be the case in New Zealand."
