Agreed. At the very least shoe in is a bit strong. Could be one of the most interesting battles for a place over the whole tour.

opportunity to prove he's not a liability. Only player

Would have preferred to see ROG starting today given the selection of
Fitz and Earls outside him: it'd do them a few favours to have a familiar,
experienced face inside them.

Can totally understand why Hook gets a start though. I don't think that
it's a Welsh plot, he just deserves a starting berth to show what he can
do. He hasn't been in good form, but he is talented, and the Lions
need a third OH [and less of this guff talk about Flutey filling in at 10].

lots of guys went as midweek players butgot the nod fortest match. Paul Wallace, David Bentley, Eric Miller to name a few. I would not write off Hook as O Garaor Jones are not certs by any means. I think Hook is the most talented of the three and the other two are not standing out imo.

reckon rog will start on wed,jones the following saturday,rog will have to be near flawless to oust jones in managements mindset unless jones picks up injury or has shocker.

Jones gave a fine performance on Wednesday. His pass to set up Bowe was savage. Hook was ok today but not yet challenging

Jones and Philips to start because of their familiarity and Jones is in slightly better form.

The fact that Hook gave a 100% goal kicking display could
prove decisive. ROG and Jones are a bit similar in style so
if coaches want someone to offer something different off
the bench but still be able to keep the scores coming then
Hook may have pushed himself into contention. At the
moment I reckon Jones is out on his own with ROG just
ahead of Hook. ROG will have to play well this week.

Not much point in having Jones and ROG in the same 22. Hook should be on the bench regardless of who is number 1. Jones and ROG are too similar. Need somoene on the bench to break up the game.
